Gosh, I did not myself realize that the gap for my “nervous 999” was 52 days. When Khyati Ben specifically mentioned that number, I instinctively scrambled to check, and she is right. Somehow I was under the mistaken notion that I was within the month. But no, the gap was much more. And unhappily so. I did not intend for it to be so long – but then, as they say, the way to hell is paved with good intentions. 😉

Greetings all friends and readers, for a wonderful and colorful festival of Holi today.
The title of this song says very aptly, ‘Holi Phir Se Aa Gayee Re’. It is once again, that time of the year – the weather is really starting to get warm in the sub continent. The cold winds from the north have given way to pleasant breezes of spring, and the time duration between the sunrise and the sunset is getting longer and longer. The colors of spring are just past their peak in the gardens, and today is the last day of the month of ‘Phalgun’ as per the Hindu calendar. Which means it is going to be a full moon tonight, and tomorrow starts the month of ‘Chaitra’.

Here is one more offering from the film ‘Tilasmi Duniya’ (1946). Recordings from this movie have been obscure and missing from decades. In this era of online publications, the only reason a particular item is not available online, could be that the item is of absolutely no interest, or that it is completely obscure or even lost. That seems to be the situation with these records also. It is just providential that I found these records in the collection of a good friend of mine; and he thankfully agreed to share the recording.

‘Tilasmi Duniya’ is a film from 1946, for which much information is not available so far from known sources. The movie was produced under the banner of Jupiter Art Pictures, Bombay and directed by AM Khan. The listed star cast for this movie is S Kulkarni, Sarla Devi, Sita Devi, Shiraaz, Rampyaari, Agha Peerjaan, Rafiq, Madhukar Gupte, Narmada Shankar, Mehndi Raja, Ansari. As rare songs go, this song is rarest of the rare, as they say in legal parlance. 🙂 So rare in fact that very little information is available on this song. What I know for sure is that this song is from “Tilasmi Duniya” (1946). Another information that is exciting for music lovers is that Sajjad Hussain is the music director !

Not all Hindi movies are made by big producers. There are many movies that are made by lesser producers with lesser names. Most of these movies, which are known as B and C grade movies, end up remaining unsung and unwatched as majority of such movie do not get proper exposure with the public.
