In this blog, I have compared this musical journey to a road journey as well as a train journey. Cricket world cup is going on these days so I can find some resemblence between cricket and this blog as well. 🙂
In limited overs cricket, the team chasing a total needs to maintain its asking rate and should not allow the asking rate to climb too high as that puts too much of pressure in the last few overs. Like cricket teams, we too “bat” at certain asking rate. Six songs a day was the asking rate that we easily used to maintain in the past. We were in great form during 2011 when we in fact maintained the asking rate of 7 to 8 songs a day for several months. 🙂

“Waapas” (1943) was a New Theatres, Calcutta production. It was directed by Hemchandra Chunder. The story, screenplay and dialogues were by Binoy Chatterjee. The movie had Asit Baran, Bharati Devi, Dhiraj Bhattacharya, Indu Mukherji, Nawab, Gopal Das, Raj Laxmi etc in it.

Today 15th Dec 2013 is the 79th birth anniversary (15.12.1935) of Usha Mangeshkar.
The voice that initially became popular singing mainly Children Songs. And she mostly received offers for that type of songs in her early career. (as mentioned by our Shri. Deshmukh Sir in his post celebrating 100 songs of Usha Mangeshkar )

Here is the “P” song in the A-Z of Rafi songs series. This is a semi classical solo song composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal in the film ‘Waapas” (1969). The lyricist of this song is the venerable poet Majrooh Sultabpuri. It is Majrooh’s birth anniversary today on 1st October, I have come to realise just now.

Today (25 november) is the 31st death anniversary of R C Boral (19 October 1903–25 November 1981). One of the earliest pioneers in the field of Hindi movie music, it was he who introduced the concept of playback singing in Indian movies by first employing it it “Dhoop Chhaaon” (1935). He has been described as the father of Indian Cinema Music by Anil Biswas.

“Waapas” (1969) was a S S Chitra Mandir Presentation. It was directed by Satyen Bose. The movie had Ajay, Satyajit, Kishwar, Azra, Leela Mishra, Shekhar Purohit, Parveen Paul, Jankidas, Chandrima Bhaduri, Alka, Kumud Tripathi etc in it.

Manwa kaahe phir tadpaaye

“Waapas” (1943) is a very old movie, nearly seven decades old in fact. Not too many details are known about this movie. And it does not help matters when conflicting information is available about this movie.
