In this blog, I have compared this musical journey to a road journey as well as a train journey. Cricket world cup is going on these days so I can find some resemblence between cricket and this blog as well. 🙂

In limited overs cricket, the team chasing a total needs to maintain its asking rate and should not allow the asking rate to climb too high as that puts too much of pressure in the last few overs. Like cricket teams, we too “bat” at certain asking rate. Six songs a day was the asking rate that we easily used to maintain in the past. We were in great form during 2011 when we in fact maintained the asking rate of 7 to 8 songs a day for several months. 🙂

Of late, our run rate has slowed down considerably. We played lots of dot balls (days) and our rate dwingled to just over three songs a day. We managed to raise our game a bit in january to our usual rate. I had some ambitious plans for february and I thought about scoring double century for the month. I managed to maintain the required rate (7 songs a day)for a few days but I was unable to sustain that rate.

Unlike in the past, this blog these days requires more maintenance as well as more research than what was the case in the past. The fact that I have set myself some daily targets means that sticking to them on a daily basis takes time because I have to search for songs meant to meet the target. Then there are distractions (like work commitments, family commitments, Cricket world cup etc) that often come in the way. 🙂

One of the very ambitious blog target to is to post one YIPPEE song daily. It is ambitios because I have decided to do it daily. In other words, I need to find a movie everyday that has just one song left to be posted. And thanks to the considerable body of work already done in the past, I am able to locate such movies everyday.

I am also thankful to our regular contributors who point out (and also send) contributions for songs that would enable me to post YIPP songs.

Today’s movie that would achieve YIPPEEHOOD in “Waapas”(1969). This movie was directed by Satyen Bose for S S Chitramandir, Bombay. The movie had Alka, Ajay, Master Satyajeet Puri,Azra, Leela Mishra, Jankidass, Shekhar Purohit, Baby Kishwar, Praveen Paul, Chandrima Bhaduri, Kumud Tripathi, Brahm Bhardwaj etc in it.

The movie had six songs in it. Though the movie itself is quite obscure, the songs of this movie are gems.

This sixth and final song is sung by Rafi. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

The song is picturised as a sentimental male lullaby song. Prakashchandra, who sent me the lyrics of this song, guesses that the lip syncer is either Ajay or Shekhar Purohit.

The audio of this song is considerably sweeter to listen to than the song in the video version. Sudhir ji, in one of his posts had mentioned that the best audio quality of songs can be achieved with 78 rpm records. Perhaps that explains why the record version sounds that much sweeter in this song.

With this song, “Waapas”(1969) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

door hai woh aanchal
jo ponchhe tere aansoo
so jaa so jaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa
door hai woh aanchal
jo ponchhe tere aansoo
so jaa so jaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa
tu to o
ro bhi sakey
main ro bhi na sakoon
so jaa so jaaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa

jo bahaar aayee thhi ik din
armaan ki tarah
jo bahaar aayee thhi ik din
armaan ki tarah
woh gayee apne aangan se
mehmaan ki tarah
saathi woh bhi nahin
saathi tu bhi nahin
so jaa so jaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa
door hai woh aanchal
jo ponchhe tere aansoo
so jaa so jaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa

aake reh jaataa hai shiqwaa
honthon ke taley ae
aake reh jaataa hai shiqwaa
honthon ke taley
jis ko lootaa ho apne ne
kis kaa aa naam lein
veeraan
karke gayaa
ghar ko ghar ka diyaa aa
so jaa so jaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa
door hai woh aanchal
jo ponchhe tere aansoo
so jaa so jaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa
tu to ro bhi sakey
main ro bhi na sakoon
so jaa so jaa aa aa
so jaa so jaa
hmmm hmm hmm hmm
hmm hmm hmm hmmm
