Today 15th Dec 2013 is the 79th birth anniversary (15.12.1935) of Usha Mangeshkar.

The voice that initially became popular singing mainly Children Songs. And she mostly received offers for that type of songs in her early career. (as mentioned by our Shri. Deshmukh Sir in his post celebrating 100 songs of Usha Mangeshkar )

For today’s occasion I wish to discuss this song ‘jhun jhuna jhun jhuna jhun jhuna’ from the 1969 film ‘Waapas’.

Whenever this film ‘Waapas-1969’ is discussed, it always triggers memories of childhood for me as I watched this film in the mid-seventies. I must have been 8-9 years old then when I watched this movie, so as Atul ji like to mention ‘it is the best age group of which the memories are there with us forever’.

Now, though, I do not remember the movie completely, what I cannot forget are the two songs from this movie which are there in my permanent memory since then.

One is ‘ek tera saath hamko do jahaan se pyaara hain’ and second one is this song that is being discussed today.

The film’s subject itself, I think, was a touching one and there were these two kids in it- one is Master Satyajeet and the Girl Child Baby Kishwar (as mentioned in the YT link) -which must have influenced my growing mind then.

From a video clip available on the YT we can presume that these two kids are separated because of their parents, Ajay and Alka. And the reason for this must be the Ajay’s acting career in films and his relationship with one of the female artist (as can be presumed from this clip ).

The music of this movie is very very good and all songs are nice and hummable.

What I have discovered only now is that the ‘mukhda’ of this song is also sung by RAFI Saab (this Part-II is not mentioned on myswar.com) which the hero Ajay is lip syncing and the picturisation of this song is shown on a film set where Master Satyajeet is seen watching the cameraman and the shooting.

So I think that Master Satyajeet then tries to imitate (as he is shown saying in the video clip, that he can do mimic of Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and other actors too …) this song when these two kids are together. (Earlier I was thinking that since the girl child is elder she must be singing this song in this film)

The main song is sung by Usha Mangeshkar and I am sure it will trigger memories of many, like me, after listening the song.
(The YT uploader has uploaded Asha ji’s picture with this audio link instead of Usha Mangeshkar ji.).
Only audio of this song is available or I could find that only.

Here is wishing Usha Mangeshkar ji a Very Happy Birthday today!!!

Now let us enjoy this beautiful song.

Aaja dekh bhaal ke,
sadke teri chaal ke
mere gale me jhool ja
Gori baahen daal ke
saaz e dil ko chhed haule haule
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna

teri lagan mein ae jaan
do kaam hain hamaare
marna teri ada pe
jeena tere sahaare
sadiyon ke baad phir se
milte hain aaj dono
sangam ho aaj apna
aise ke jag pukaare
Raaju sang Radha dole ae
Raaju sang Radha dole
Radha kaise dole
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna

koi aalam dil ko behlaata nahin
ab kisi soorat karaar aata nahin
koi aalam dil ko behlaata nahin
phool shaakhon mein jale uske bagair
aur wo jaane bahaar aata nahin
baitha hoon main munh khole

(Laughing sound)

jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
jhunjhuna jhunjhuna jhunjhuna
