Here is a song that is barely known to people like me who actually lived through the era when this movie was released. The reason why this song is unknown are many, for one, this movie, “Talaash” had the misfortune of being released simultaneously with Aradhana. The songs of Talaash, though great in their own right, suffered in comparison with “Aradhana”. Most of the songs from this movie were very nice to listen to, but the problem was, they became forgotten with time.
This particular song is a classical music based song, and ordinary public can be counted upon to keep away from such music. But now, with the benefit of hind sight, and after one listens to the song a few times, this song starts growing on it.
It is a difficult song to sing, compose and picturise. Manna Dey the singer, Majrooh the lyricist, SD Burman the composer, as well as the dancer called Madhumati, shine through in this song. It is a forgotten gem that needs to be rediscovered.

Song- tere naina talash kare jise (Talaash) (1969) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics
khoyi khoyi aankh hai jhuki palak hai
jahaan jahaan dekhegaa tu wahin jhalak hai
khoyi khoyi …
aaa
tere nainaa talaash kare jise
wo hai tujhi mein kahin deewaane
tere nainaa talaash kare jise
wo hai tujhi mein kahin deewaane
tere nainaa…
yahaan do roop hain har ek ke
yahaan nazaren uthaanaa zaraa dekh ke
jab us ki muhabbat mein gum hai tu
wahi soorat nazar aayegi chaar su
kaun kyaa hai haa man ke sivaa ye koi kyaa jaane
tere nainaa talaash kare jise
wo hai tujhi mein kahin deewaane
tere nainaa …
tere nainaa
tere nainaa
ye jawaan raat le ke teraa naam
kahe haath badhaa koi haath thaam
ye jawaan raat le ke teraa naam
kahe haath badhaa koi haath thaam
ye jawaan raat
kaali alkaa ke baadal mein bijaliyaan
gori baahon mein chaahat ki angdaayiaan
jo adaa hai ishaaraa hai pyaar kaa
o deewaane tujhe chaahiye aur kyaa
par ruk jaa ha
man ki sadaa bhi sun deewaane
tere nainaa talaash kare jise
wo hai tujhi mein kahin deewaane
tere nainaa ..

Perhaps the greatest of the classical songs ever made in Hindi cinema. The lyrics of mujroh sultanpuri and music rendition by S.D.Burman Saab is unparallel and perhaps never can be recreated. However chreography is not great enough as music by artists( present in the scene is not well consistent) so also the dance by the artist madhumati.I have seen great dance performances in Telugu cinema bettering this.
The guy singing/ main performer was a classical music celebrity -roped into this big fillum. am unable to recollect his name etc

This song is composed by S D Burman, not by R D Burman.
