Zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi

on:Some day I will make a list of all the sad songs of Mukesh, and then I will analyse them to find out which song expresses which kind of sadness. I may be able to identify scores of types of sadnesses listening to Mukesh’s songs, and then I will present my thesis to an university and take a doctorate. Not a bad idea, I think.
In this particular case, our man is sad ( what else) and the sad heart has a direct hotline with the jubaan causing instant communication, leading to a dard bhari daastaan. The line is not secure, so everyone can listen to the sad song and feel saddened. This is a somewhat extroverted kind of sadness. Introverted sadness was ” mujhe mere haal pe chod do” kind of song. In this song, the sadness was somewhat tempered, and others are allowed to share the sadness.

Song- Zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi (Maryada) (1971) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics
zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi
zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi
bahaar aane se pahle Khizaan chali aayi
zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi
Khushi ki chaah mein main ne uthaaye ranj bade
Khushi ki chaah mein main ne uthaaye ranj bade
meraa naseeb ki mere qadam jahaan bhi pade
ye badnaseebi meri bhi wahaan chali aayi
zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi
udaas raat hai veeraan dil ki mahfil hai
udaas raat hai veeraan dil ki mahfil hai
na hamsafar hai koi aur na koi manzil hai
ye zindagi mujhe lekar kahaan chali aayi
zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi
bahaar aane se pahle Khizaan chali aayi
zubaan pe dard bhari daastaan chali aayi

I should commend you for the collection of songs that you have. I had been searching for old songs on the net, but your collection is very good. I like songs picturised on Farroq sheikh, Amol Palekar, Rajesh Khanna.

Atul, this is one of my favourite Mukesh songs.
I like a lot of Mukesh songs – this will be in my top 5.
The intonations in the song, combined with of course the soulfulness of Mukesh’s voice, make this a very special song.
Which I can listen to again and again without getting tired of it.
I like the way you select songs which are not necessarily the most famous or popular of their time – and have probably been crowded out by the more popular songs – but still have a lot of melody about them and deserve their place in the sun too.
You are bringing them back to the music lover in this most wonderful of formats and in your own inimitable style.
I can think of a few songs that I would like to give as farmaish – will send you a PM on this.
