I have posted a few songs where readers of this blog commented like- “it is the first time I have heard this song”. This time the shoe is on the other foot. It is one of the readers of this blog, who sent his farmaish for this song, and I was like ” which is this song? I am not even aware of the name of the movie, let alone this song.”
So, let me confess. This song that I have posted today is a song that I have heard for the first time today, even though this is a 35 years old song.
From the picturisation of the song, I can guess that the makers of this movie were influenced by the success of “Aradhana” and they signed up virtually the same team, hoping to emulate the success of “Aradhana”. But the fact that I have never heard of this movie shows that this movie fell far short of the expectations of its makers.
Coming to this song itself, the picturisation certainly seems inspired by the picturisation of “roop tera mastana”. Same group of actors viz Rajesh Khanna and Sharmina Tagore figure in both, and both the movies boast of same music director and lyricist as well. The one difference I can see is Mukesh being the voice of Rajesh Khanna in this song.
Considering that I heard this song for the first time today, I must say I liked this song. I am sure I will begin liking this song even more as I get to listen to the song a few more times.
In fact, that is how a song becomes popular, by repeatedly listening to it.I am sure there are many old songs which I have never listened but I will like them if I get opportunities to listen to them. For instance, I recall listening to songs under Madan Mohan’s music direction (composed in 1952) that I listened to in 2007, and I started liking them the more I listened to them.
This song is certainly among those forgotten songs that need to be revived for the listening pleasure of those who have never listened to them, and for those who may want to listen to them again. Here is this song, which I present on the “farmaish” of my new reader Suhans . Enjoy!

I have heard these Kishore Kumar songs, but the Mukesh song was new for me.

The movie was released on Friday Jan 26th, the date mentioned in the song.
“Jab Andhera..” by Asha/Bhupinder was the most popular song of the film.

i have heard this song after ages today, probably 10-15 years since i heard. and note Rajesh Khanna spoken a few words in the middle

Oh thank you, thank you! Am happy to help in expanding your repertoire especially when my knowledge of Hindi film music is quite woeful 🙂 Enthusiasm isn’t though and neither is appreciation. And if nothing else I know a little about Kaka’s films. The “Raja Rani” score was pretty compelling–“Main ek chor tu meri rani”, “Jab andhera hota hai”, etc.
