Na jaane kaise pal mein badal jaate hain

Posted on: November 19, 2008

This song is the title song of the movie called “Badalte Rishtey”. And this song also happens to be perhaps the best known and most popular song from this movie. This song is picturised in a typical Reena Roy fashion, viz it is a song sung by her in a party/ get together, just like Dharmendra used to do in 1960s.Rishi Kapoor and later Jeetendra also join her in singing this song.

Playback singing is done by Suman Kalyanpur, Kishore Kumar and Rafi. These were three singers who rarely let you down in their singing. And this song is no exception. It is a truly memorable song. The fact that Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music were definitely a big help.

Interestingly this movie saw songs sung by Lata and Suman Kalyanpur both. As we all know Suman Kalyanpur was a Lata clone and legend has it that Lata ensured that Suman Kalyanpur was not allowed to get a foothold in Bollywood playback singing. Nevertheless, Suman Kalyanpur has sung some memorable songs throughout her career and this song is definitely one such song.

Kishore Kumar and Rafi figuring in a song also involving a female voice- this was not the first such occasion. I recall another such memorable song from that era. Rishi Kapoor was there in that song too. This song was “kya mausam hai ” from “Doosra Aadmi”. Incidentally, both these movies had somewhat similar ( two men in the life of one woman) storyline.

PS- When two singers sing a song, it is called a duet. What does one call it when three singers sing a song ?

Song- Na jaane kaise pal mein (Badaltay Rishtey)( 1978) Singers- Suman Kalyanpur, Kishore Kumar, Rafi, Lyrics- Anand Bakshi, MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

na jaane kaise
pal mein badal jaate hain
na jaane kaise
pal mein badal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte
kya jaane kaise
rangon mein dhal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte
na jaane kaise
pal mein badal jaate hain

judkar kahin dil jod dein
tooten to dil tod jaate hain ye
judkar kahin dil jod dein
tooten to dil tod jaate hain ye
ye phool bankar hain khilte kahin
kahin dil mein kaante chubhaate hain ye
jaane kahan
kis mod pe
deke daga dil ko chhal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte
na jaane kaise
pal mein badal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte

apnon se yoon bichhde hain jo
unhen kya bichhadne ka kuchh gham nahin
apnon se yoon bichhde hain jo
unhen kya bichhadne ka kuchh gham nahin
magar haar kar kyun dukhon se koi
zahar ghol de zindagi mein kahin
sab khel hai taqdeer ka
taqdeer se hi badal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte
na jaane kaise
pal mein badal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte

rishte kabhi toote kahaan
jo toot jaayen wo rishte nahin
rishte kabhi toote kahaan
jo toot jaayen wo rishte nahin
chhupi hai udaasi ke peeche hansi
dabi dard mein bhi khushi hai kahin
sach to hai ye
bas pyaar se
jeewan hamaare badal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte

na jaane kaise
pal mein badal jaate hain
ye duniya ke badalte rishte

there was also a romantic number in this movie on rishi kapoor and reena roy in this movie that went “dekh mausam keh raha hai”.
there was one other movie “barood” that had rishi kapoor and reena roy as the lead with shoma anand as the debutant.
even that had lovely songs

@ Peevesie’s mom ji – ‘dekh mausam keh raha hai’ is not from this movie, but it is from ‘Duniya Meri Jeb Mein-1979’ and i think it is picturised on Rishi Kapoor & Neetu Singh.

@ Atul ji – nice post !! this film brings back memories and its songs too!
in late eighties when i started this collection of cassettes, because of this song I started looking for songs sung by ‘three singers’, so that i get a separate compilation of such songs.

The lyricist of this song is Anjaan not Anand Bakshi. All songs for “Badaltey Rishtey” were penned by Anjaan.
