Chhoti si ye duniya

Posted on: November 19, 2008

Considering that it is Shailendra who wrote the lyrics and Shankar Jaikishan who composed the music, it could as well be Mukesh singing for Raj Kapoor, but here it is Kishore Kumar singing for himself in “Rangoli”.

And as sad songs go, Kishore Kumar has been no less outstanding in this song.In this song, he sound disappointed, but not bitter or angry with the lady. Ability to express such complex feelings with such ease is what made Kishore Kumar such a wonderful singer of all kinds of songs.

The song is picturised on Kishore Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala. They paired together in quite a few movies and were associated in many memorable songs on the screen. This song is certainly one of the memorable songs picturised on them.
This song also has a female solo version which is sung by Lata and picturised on Vyjyanti Mala.

Lata version

Song- Chhoti si ye duniya (Rangoli)(1962) Singer- Kishore Kumar/Lata, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD- Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

chhoti si ye duniyaa, pahchaane raasten hain
tum kahin to miloge, kabhi to miloge to poochhenge haal
chhoti si ye duniyaa, pahchaane raasten hain
tum kahin to miloge, kabhi to miloge to poochhenge haal
chhoti si ye duniyaa

ham to ye samjhenge hamne ek patthar ko poojaa
lekin tumko apne jaisa nahin milege doojaa, nahin milegaa doojaa
chhoti si ye duniyaa, pahchaane raasten hain
tum kahin to miloge, kabhi to miloge to poochhenge haal

seekhaa nahin hamaare dil ne pyaar mein dheeraj khonaa
aag mein jal ke bhi jo nikhre, hai wohi sachchaa sonaa, hai wahi sachchaa sonaa
chhoti si ye duniyaa, pahchaane raasten hain
tum kahin to miloge, kabhi to miloge to poochhenge haal
chhoti si ye duniyaa

dil ki daulat mat thukraao, dekho pachhtaaoge
aaj chale jaate ho jaise, laut ke bhi aaoge, laut ke bhi aaoge
chhoti si ye duniyaa, pahchaane raasten hain
tum kahin to miloge, kabhi to miloge to poochhenge haal
chhoti si ye duniyaa, pahchaane raasten hain
tum kahin to miloge, kabhi to miloge to poochhenge haal
chhoti si ye duniyaa

Wonderful !!!
I used to sing 3 “old” Kishore songs as a young boy.
They were : koi lauta de mere, aa chal ke tujhe and this song.

Kishore is just amazing. There is a sad version of the same song sung in the movie later by Vyjayanthimala. Here is the video ..

Shankar Jaikishan (SJ) worked with Rajinder Kishan in College Girl. Shailendra and Hasrat got upset about it and so Shailendra wrote this song in response… SJ never worked with any other lyricists after that until Shailendra’s sudden demise in 1966. SJHS team will never be forgotten.

lata version :

chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kabhi to miloge
kahin to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa

seekha nahin hamaare dil ne
pyaar mein dheeraj khonaa
aag mein jal ke bhi jo nikhre
hai wahi sachcha sonaa
hai wahi sachcha sonaa
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kabhi to miloge
kahin to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa

ham to yeh samjhenge ham ne
ik patthhar ko pooja
lekin tum ko apne jaisa
nahin milegaa doojaa
nahin milgaa doojaa
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa

seekha nahin hamaare dil ne
pyaar mein dheeraj khonaa

chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa

meraa pehlaa pyaar aakhri
bhi hai is jeewan ka
ek baar hotaa hai jag mein
rishtaa man se man ka
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa pehchaane raaste hain
tum kahin to miloge
kabhi to miloge
to poochhenge haal
chhoti si yeh duniyaa
