Ruk jaana nahin tu kahin haar ke

Posted on: December 9, 2008

I was looking for this song for a long time. I could get its audio, but getting this song with its original video was proving to be difficult. Now finally my search is over, and I have been able to locate it.

And it goes without saying that the song “ruk jaana nahin tu kahin haar ke” has become an iconic song. The lyrics ( written by Majrooh Sultanpuri) are so inspirational that I have classified this song as an inspirational song. This song has to be among the very best songs sung by Kishore Kumar.

The music by Laxmikant Pyarelal enhances the mood of the song. Laxmikant Pyarelal had composed another memorable song in the same year (1974) for another movie called “Dost” which went “gaadi bula rahi hai seetee baja rahi hai”. One can detect similarities in the tunes of both the songs. And both these songs have gone on to become immortal songs in the annals of Bollywood music.

Song-Ruk jaana nahin tu kahin haar ke (Imtihaan) (1974) Singer- Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

ruk jaanaa nahin tu kahin haar ke
kaanton pe chalke milenge saaye bahaar ke
ruk jaanaa nahin tu kahin haar ke
kaanton pe chalke milenge saaye bahaar ke
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi..

saathi na kaarwaan hai ye teraa imtihaan hai
saathi na kaarwaan hai ye teraa imtihaan hai
yoon hi chalaa chal dil ke sahaare
karti hai manzil tujhko ishaare
dekh kahin koyi rok nahin le tujhko pukaar ke
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
ruk jaanaa nahin tu kahin haar ke
kaanton pe chalke milenge saaye bahaar ke
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi

ruk jaanaa nahin tu kahin haar ke
kaanton pe chalke milenge saaye bahaar ke
ruk jaanaa nahin tu kahin haar ke
kaanton pe chalke milenge saaye bahaar ke
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi

nain aansoo jo liye hain ye raahon ke diye hain
nain aansoo jo liye hain ye raahon ke diye hain
logon ko unkaa sab kuchh deke
tu to chalaa thaa sapne hi leke
koyi nahin to tere apne hain sapne ye pyaar ke
o raahi, o raahi…

sooraj dekh ruk gayaa hai tere aage jhuk gayaa hai
sooraj dekh ruk gayaa hai tere aage jhuk gayaa hai
jab kabhi aise koyi mastaanaa
nikle hai apni dhun mein deewaanaa
shaam suhaani ban jaate hain din intzaar ke
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
ruk jaanaa nahin tu kahin haar ke
kaanton pe chalke milenge saaye bahaar ke
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi
o raahi, o raahi

Another song that’s imprinted in the brain! Had no idea about the film, actors, picturization. Wonderful!

I agree with you that this song is hardwired into the brains of people who have listened to it.

But for some reason this song and indeed the VCD/DVD of thi s movie is so hard to come by. I do not know why.

And for a change, I actually know about the film and actor of this movie ( patting myself on my back)

Wonderful inspirational song. If my memory serves me right, Sachin Tendulkar once said that this song was his favorite song.

this is a two part song, which has always played as a single song on the radio waves. I am seeing the movie for the first time.
this song plays along with the titles and in the last after the professor played by Vinod Khanna resigns from college after being falsely accused of harassment by the girl student Bindu.
this video shows both parts together
