After Rajesh Khanna lost his crown as the Superstar of Bollywood, he spared no efforts to regain it. He would give his best in movies after movies, but the movies would fail at the box office and even the critics would be umimpressed. Then a time came when critics began to acknowledge Rajesh Khanna’s performances, but the box office remained unrelenting.
Then a stage came when Rajesh Khanna movies gradually began to find box office success as well. These movies never succeeded on the same scale as his movies a decade ago, and Rajesh Khanna never regained his superstar status, but he gained lots of critical acclaims in 1980 during his second innings as an actor.
“Thodi si bewafaai” was a movie that was liked by public and critics alike. It had some sterling performances from Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi.
Another remarkable thing about this movie was its music. Gulzar wrote some great lyrics and Khayyam composed some memorable music. Kishore Kumar was nominated as the filmfare best male playback singer for his playback singing in more than one movie, but he finally won the award for this particular song.
And it is easy to see why. The feelings of sadness, pathos, pain, nostalgia, sense of personal loss, feelings what could have been comes across so lucidly in his voice that the jury just could not have chosen a better song for their best male playback singer award.
