Tum pukaar lo, tumhaara intzaar hai
Posted on: December 19, 2008
This superb movie called “Khamoshi” not only had a good story line and good actors, it had good music as well. Hemant Kumar’s music and Gulzar’s lyrics were just out of this world.
There were three songs from this movie that became very popular. One of them, “hamne dekhi hai un aankhon me mahakti khushboo” has already been posted in this blog.
The song that is regarded the highest among all the songs of this movie was a song sung by Hemant Kumar himself, though. This song “Tum pukaar lo” had critics raving about it, and this song is still talked of very highly by knowledgeable music lovers.

Song-Tum pukaar lo (Khamoshi) (1969) Singer-Hemant Kumar, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD- Hemant Kumar
Lyrics
hmmm hmmm hmmm
tum pukaar lo, tumhaaraa intzaar hai,
tum pukaar lo
khwaab chun rahi hai raat, beqraar hai
tumhaaraa intzaar hai, tum pukaar lo
honth pe liye huye dil ki baat ham
jaagte rahenge aur kitni raat ham
honth pe liye huye dil ki baat ham
jaagte rahenge aur kitni raat ham
muqtasar si baat hai tum se pyaar hai
tumhaaraa intazaar hai, tum pukaar lo
dil bahal to jaayegaa is khayaal se
haal mil gayaa tumhaaraa apne haal se
dil bahal to jaayegaa is khayaal se
haal mil gayaa tumhaaraa apne haal se
raat ye qaraar ki beqaraar hai
tumhaaraa intazaar hai

Kalidas’ Meghdoot in hand
This song playing in Hemant Da’s voice in the background
Waheeda ji slowly climbing the stairs
Dharmendra sitting on the rocking chair.
Now why only Kalidas’s Meghdoot in hand?
Yaksha, who is living a lonely life in the story Meghdoot, does not find any messenger, so he thought of sending his message to his estranged girlfriend through the cloud. This is what Asit Sen has done through this song.
The mental state of Yaksha has been depicted on Waheeda ji’s face. Whatever director Asit Sen ji thought for the filming of this song, Waheeda ji fulfilled it. The state of mind of the heroine when her lover did not accept her love is perhaps fully reflected in the two lines of this song –
Muktsar si baat hai
tum se pyaar hai
tumhaara inteza hai,
tum pukar lo…………..

One of my favourite songs.
Just the start of the song itself is so serene.
