Hamne dekhi hai un aankhon ki mahakti khushboo

on:“Khamoshi” (1969) was a superb movie, and it earned rave reviews when it was released. It was a labour of love for the director Asit Sen (not the comedian Asit Sen but a different person) and it was a remake of his own bangla movie called “deep jwele jaaye” (1959).
Too bad that people have forgotten this movie, which deserved much better audience. The songs of this movie were outstanding as well. Hemant Kumar’s music and Gulzar’s lyrics just cannot be praised enough.
Just listen to this song “humne dekhi hai un aankhon ki mahakti khushboo”. I have no words to praise this song sung by Lata. The voice, the lyrics, the music, everything is outstanding.
The picturisation show a pretty lady singing this song live from a radio station. I have no idea who she is. I thought she looked like Hema Malini, but it is a different person. Can anyone help identify her ?
P.S.- Now I have been informed that she is called Snehlata. Thanks for this information, Shontou.

Song-Humne dekhi hai in aankhon ki (Khamoshi ) (1969) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD- Hemant Kumar
Lyrics
hamne dekhin hain un aankhon ki mahakti khushboo
hamne dekhin hai un aankhon ki mahakti khushboo
hamane dekhi hai
pyaar koyi bol nahin, pyaar aawaaz nahin
ek khaamoshi hai sunti hai kahaa karti hai
hamane dekhi hai
muskuraahat si khili rahti hai aankhon mein kahin
pyaar ko pyaar hi rahne do koyi naam na do
hamne dekhin hai un aankhon kii mahakti khushboo
hamne dekhin hain

I have seen the twinkling fragrance in those deep eyes
No need to touch and solemnize this into worldly relations
Its only feelings do feel them from the depth of your soul
Leave love as it ought to be , Dont give it a name
I have seen the twinkling fragrance in those deep eyes
No need to touch and solemnize this into worldly relations
I have seen
Love is no voice, nor spoken words
Its only silence which does speak and hears too
It does not pause nor stops and never extinguish
Just a drop of celestial light flowing from eternity
Its only feeling do feel it within your soul
Leave love as it ought to be , Dont give it a name
I have seen the twinkling fragrance in those deep eyes
No need to touch and solemnize this into worldly relations
I have seen
When those eyes are lit up with smile
And the halos of lights entwine the bedazzled lashes
Lips tremble but dont say much
As if trying to hold onto many silent untold tales
Its only feelings do feel them from the depth of your soul
Leave love as it ought to be , Dont give it a name
I have seen the twinkling fragrance in those deep eyes
No need to touch and solemnize this into worldly relations
I have seen

I liked this movie a lot.
And the songs were really good.
“Tumhara intezaar hai”, “wo shaam kuchh ajeeb thi” and this song…
Three different singers..each of the songs top-class.

Yes, the lady is Snehlata. She was a very well known actress later on in Gujarati films.
Gulzar excels as usual with his superb lyrics .

Lovely song, beautiful music and the lyrics are fantastic. Forget the music, the singer, the film – just read the lyrics as you would a poem.
It is poetry at its best. Gulzar has written a great poem about that most important emotions of all – LOVE. Not only love between man and woman, just the feeling of love which can touch us all.

This is one of the best songs bollywood has ever produced. Gem of lyrics by Gulzar have been composed with an out of this world musical dhun by Hemandt Da. Lata ji has sung in her mellifluos voice with feeling and balance of a maestro. The combined effect produces a magical trance every time I listen to this song.
equally good by Lata has been ” Aei mere watan ke logo…”
