Zara samne to aao chhaliye

In Bollywood movies, there are A grade movies made by leading producers and directors and then there are also rans whose movies rarely reach mainstream audiences. The same is true for the music of such movies.
In Bollywood, mythological movies, stunt movies etc have always been regarded as C grade stuff. These movies and their music seldom became as popular as the mainstream ones.
This class distinction was almost always maintained. But there were exceptions, when certain C grade movies and/ or their music would become as popular as mainstream movies.
This song “Zara saamne to aao chhaliye” is the biggest example of a C grade movie song joining the mainstream songs and becoming more popular than them. This song was the surprise number one song in Binaca geetmala finals of 1957 beating back “true blue” music of A grade movies like “Pyaasa”, “Paying Guest”,”Chori Chori”, “basant Bahar” etc. This was a stupendous feat for a C grade movie which has not been repeated since.
Bharat Vyas was the lyricist, and S N Tripathi, the biggest name when it came to giving music in such movies, was the music director. Rafi, who was gracious enough to sing for just about any music director, however small time he may be, sang this song which continues to be popular even today.

The hero is Manher Desai.But i am not sure whether the film is directed by Manmohan Desai,though IMDB does credit him as the director.

What a beautiful song in what was obviously a B grade movie! It looks like Nirupa Roy played the female lead, while I couldn’t recognize the hero. It doesn’t matter, the song is great and I have always loved it. Thanks for playing the song!
