If Indian movie industry has a few famous sisters in different fields of movie making. The most well known of them being the Mangeshkar sisters who are well known in the field of movie music.Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar are so well known that they need no introduction.
Then there were some sisters who did very well in the field of dancing/ acting in Indian movies. The most well known of them were the sisters Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini. They were active in the decades of 1950 and 1960 and they were popularly known as Travancore sisters.
Just as there were a few occasions when the Mangeshkar sisters sang together in a song, there were a few occasions when two of these Travancore sisters also danced together in a song.
One occasion where Padmini and Ragini are seen dancing together in a Bollywood movie is in the song “tu hai mera prem devta”. This is from a 1960 movie called “Kalpana”.
This song has to be a very special song. It is a semi classical song (based on Raag Lalit) and its music was composed by a most unusual name viz O P Nayyar who was supposed to be untrained in classical music, and who was better known for fast paced folk music based tunes.
The lyrics which are full of shuddh Hindi words were written by Qamar Jalalabadi. The voices who sang this song belonged to Manna Dey and Rafi.
And as for the picturisation, the two sisters Padmini and Ragini are seen giving a memorable dance performance in this song.

I believe that the first line of the first stanza is
“Main gauri tu panth hamara”
panth = meaning path.
