Mukesh, known for singing memorable sad songs, has also sung some memorable happy/romantic songs. In fact, Mukesh’s voice sounded like that of a man who wore his feelings on his sleeve, whatever the nature of the song. Perhaps the listeners regarded him as common man’s voice.
This song from “Purnima” is a duet sung by Mukesh and Lata. It is a romantic song which was written by Gulzar and composed by Kalyanji Anandji. Gulzar, as we have come to realise by now, could come up with very nice lyrics whaetever be the situation. And in this romantic situation, he comes up with this beautiful song.
The song is picturised on Dharmendra and Meena Kumari, and the picturisation is good. A happier looking Meena Kumari is any day preferrable to a sad one, and I am happy to see a happier looking Meena Kumari in this song.

Lovely song.
I love those Mukesh romantic duets of yesteryear.
Songs like this one or “bikhra ke zulfen” from Nazrana.
Or even “O shama mujhe phook de” from Aashiq.
In fact, Aashiq has nice songs, including the title song itself.
Would be nice to post them sometime.
