This movie “Sangeet Samrat Tansen” was a C grade movie and its music director was S N Tripathi who was the biggest music director of such movies alongwith Chitragupta.
Most songs in such C grade movies failed to make an impression with the mainstream audience. Of course there were exceptions, when a few songs from these movies managed to get popular.
This song “Jhoomti chali hawa” did not create any big ripples at its time. The song was nowhere in contention in Binaca geetmala countdown. But then popularity of a song has little relation to its quality. Many songs that are popular during its time may get forgotten. On the other hand, songs that found themselves elbowed out by other songs during their time may become more and more popular as time progressed. This song is certainly a song that has become more popular with time.
Now, with technology making it easier to listen to old songs, there have been renewed interest in many old songs. Now that one listens to this song, one can realise that the song was a nice song to listen to. If this song failed to make much of an impression those days, then it was because there were far too many great songs competing for the attention of the same audience.
