Koyi pyaar hamen bhi karta hai

This long pending farmaish for this “Brahmachari” song could not be complied earlier because this song was not available on internet.
Raja had given the farmaish for this twice, so on popular demand ( popular= two farmaishes as far as this blog is concerned 😉 ), here is this song, which I have especially uploaded so that I may be able to discuss this song.
I did not watch this movie, since I could clearly see that “Mr India” was almost a frame by frame copy of this movie and I had watched “Mr India”. “Brahmachari” in fact beats “Mr India” when it comes to music. I have already posted a few iconic songs from this movie. This particular song seems to have somehow escaped the radar, seing how this song was not there on youtube etc.
This song appears in the second half of the movie when Shammi Kapoor and Rajshree decide to get married. A buyoed up Shammi Kapoor sings this song to celebrate the occasion and described himself as “muhabbat ka Khuda” ( God of love) in this song. I am sure the fans (especially the female fans) will not dispute Shammi Kapoor’s claim.
Any idea who is the lyricist of this song ? Shailendra was the original lyricist who died during the making of this movie and Hasrat jaipuri was roped in as the lyricist. The credits mention them as the lyricist of this song, but some websites mention Rajinder Krishan as the lyricist, which has to be incorrect based on the credits shown in the movie.

Song-Koyi pyaar hamen bhi karta hai (Brahamachari) (1968) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
Koyi pyaar hamen bhi karta hai
hampar bhi koyi marta hai
hame tum kya samajhte ho
hame tum kya samajhte ho
mohabbat ke Khuda ham hain
Khuda ham hain
Khuda Khuda Khuda
Khuda Khuda
Koyi pyaar hamen bhi karta hai
hampar bhi koyi marta hai
hame tum kya samajhte ho
hame tum kya samajhte ho
mohabbat ke Khuda ham hain
Khuda ham hain
Khuda Khuda Khuda
ham hain
phoolon ki taazji tu hai
ho kaliyon ki naasti yu hai
ab teri zindagi main hoon aur meri zindagi tu hai
mohabbat ke khuda ham hain
khuda ham hain
khuda khuda khuda
ham hain
Koyi pyaar hamen bhi karta hai
hampar bhi koyi marta hai
aankhon se pyaar chalka ke
dekha jo toone sharma ke
pahloo me tere aa baithe
ham to jahaan thukra ke
mohabbat ke khuda ham hain
khuda ham hain
khuda khuda
ham hain
Koyi pyaar hamen bhi karta hai
hampar bhi koyi marta hai
hamen tum kya samajhte ho
hamen tum kya samajhte ho
mohabbat ke khuda ham hain
Khuda ham hain
Khuda Khuda Khuda
Khuda

No wonder Shammi ji got a backache in later life…carrying around too many heroines. What a guy! So cool!

I have thought about this recently and realized he wanted to be big. First there was the genetics as Rishi Kapoor himself admitted that their family prided themselves on being big. I remember when Raj Kapoor died everyone thought he was so big. But also, I think he wanted to be his father who was big and played big stately roles as a father figure. I think he half wanted to be that and therefore, just let himself get big. But there was also the genetics and the psychologcial trauma plus the fact that even in Holllywood, fitness issues were not so well known and everyone having a trainer was not common.
I remember not liking his looks in Andaz. His face looked so puffy and even in Prince it was difficult to watch…but then again, he is our Shammi ji and we love him any which way he is.

Rajinder Kishan is the lyricist of the song. The antaraa of this song has “Phoolon ki taazgi ho tum..” and that became the mukhda of another SJ-Rajinder Kishan song about 4 years later. The movie was Bandagi. And the singer in that case were Kishore-Asha.

Thank you so much for posting this, Atul.
Had a lovely time watching this just now.
I find this song really lively, with Rafi saab in his element.
In fact, you can enjoy this song just listening to the audio. Rafi saab’s voice comes bursting through.
This was not the most popular song of Brahmachari – most certainly not.
But somehow I like this song very much.
