#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
I discovered this blog in the year 2009 while searching for songs penned by Sahir Ludhianvi. My first comment on this blog was on the song ‘kashtee kaa khaamosh safar hai’ on 15 September 2009 more than two months after this song was posted on the blog on 12 July 2009. I had sent this comment after some hesitation because I was new to blogs and for that matter to internet itself and I was not sure whether my comment will get published. Fortunately, it all went well. 🙂 My comment got published :-
I love the music and specifically Hindi music/songs from old Hindi films and try to collect them in my collection i.e. cassettes or cds . Now a days I am collecting the lyrics for old songs and which contains true poetry and are true gems in our Hindi films history.
The great work being carried by you deserves much accolades and NOT a mere thank you, since the work being carried by you is priceless and very very precious for peoples like me.
After this initial comment, I kept visiting this blog regularly for those songs that I remembered from my younger days and which were missing from my collections of cassettes. My understanding of this blog then was that some of the songs that I was looking for were available here while others were not available.
After going through the articles on the blog and specially articles written by Atul jee, which mentioned about the Geet Kosh and the songs produced by our Hindi Films, I became aware about the number of songs created in Hindi Films. The mind blowing figures that I became aware of opened not only my eyes but also broadened the horizons of my thinking. I was posted at Kachchh at that time (the same place where I am posted even today). This place is a remote place by the standards of places like Ahmedabad or Vadodara. I had lots of cassettes in my collection and I had an assembled Deck music system purchased from Bareilly (UP). I purchased a Philips made CD/DVD-cassette player-recorder having Radio facility. However, Radio waves were not available in that remote area and I was dependent on cassettes only. The other source ofentertainment was the TV, of course. I also bought many CDs /DVDs too at that time.
As internet kept growing and advancing, many songs that were rare for me earlier became available online and I started to enjoy them after downloading the mp3 of such songs. I became a lyrics contributor to the blog in 2012, three years after my first comment appeared on the blog on 2009. The song lyrics that I shared was for the song ‘pyaar kaa badlaa mujhe dekho kaisaa milaa’. And our respected Atul jee introduced me
“With this song, another lyrics contributor joins the ranks of contributors of this blog. The lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.”
More than thirteen years have passed since I became ‘lyrics contributor’. Subsequently I graduated to become a ‘posts contributor’ as well.
This journey of music has enriched me by leaps and bounds, and expanded my knowledge on Old Hindi Films’ music and the songs that were hitherto ‘out of my limited world of music’. This journey got me introduced to many lesser heard and rare songs, listening to them have given me hours of joy and pleasure. Reading the articles on this blog and the trivia and anecdotes about films, the many artistes, and the statistical information about the compositions and the personal achievements the many known and unknown from the Hindi Film Industry has been agreat musical journey for me so far.
I would also like to mention two main factors, and one of them is post by our seniors, which totally changed my perspective towards listening, treating and absorbing a musical composition in this journey of films and music. But that is a matter of another post or a ‘sequel’ 🙂 in today’s ‘vocabulary’.
For today we have another rarely heard song sung by Asha Bhonsle. The movie is ‘Bandish-1969’. It was directed by Charandas Shokh for ‘J.J. Films, Bombay’. It had Sonia Sahni, Shailendra, Azra, Ulhas, Brahmachari, Shyam Kumar, Sarita Devi, S.K. Prem, Mirza Musharraf, Uma Dhawan, Sushma, Kundan, Dhanraj, Habib, Madhumati, Manmohan and others. This movie has six songs composed to music by Usha Khanna. Akmal Hyderabadi is the lyricist of the songs in this movie. Asha Bhonsle, Krishan Kalle, Mohd Rafi, and Jaspal Singh (as Jaspal Phokela) are singers for the songs in this movie.
Here is the story of this movie as given by Shri Arunkumar ji in his comments on one previously posted song of this movie .
The story of this film is about CID Inspector Anand, who is a courageous, loyal and is devoted to elimination of traitors of the country. I thought this was CBI’s job, but the producers of this film firmly believed that CID does this work. Anand is sent abroad to many countries and returns victorious every time after eliminating traitors. But the supply of traitors is in plenty in India, hence he is appointed now in India.
He meets Shabnam in a train journey and becomes involved with her. The traitors kidnap Shabnam (why her?) and Anand and they are brought to Lobo’s den. He wants secret information from Anand. That time Anand realizes that Shabnam is their accomplice. He escapes from there and finds out that Shabnam’s father is held by the traitors. After few reels, Anand, as expected, traces the culprits, arrests them and also captures Shabnam. Culprits are handed over to the police and Shabnam, he keeps for himself!
Four songs from this movie ‘Bandish-1969’ have been presented earlier on this blog. Today I am presenting the fifth song from this movie. As mentioned above Asha Bhonsle is the singer of today’s song. It is yet again it’s a nice peppy song to listen to. Lyrics are by Akmal Hyderabadi and music is composed by Usha Khanna.
Let us listen and enjoy this song now …
