Chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko

Ravi has composed iconic songs on just about any topic under the sun. So it should not come as any surprise that one of the most memorable drunkard song has been composed by Ravi.
I am talking about the song ‘chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko” from the movie “Kaajal” (1965). This was a song where a drunkard Raj Kumar tries to make his Bhartiya Nari wife Meena Kumari to drink. In real life, such husbands would be called names, and here ironically I am calling the song sung by as an iconic drunkard song. Well, my statutory warning to drunkard husbands it, do not try it at home. 😉
And Rafi is divine in this song. And I think one should not underestimate the contribution of Sahir Ludhianvi in this song. It is his lyrics that enabled Rafi and Ravi ( I love the fact that the two differ just by one letter) to come up with this gem of a song.

Song-Choo lene do naazuk hothon ko (Kaajal) (1965) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Ravi
Lyrics
chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko
kuchh aur nahin hai jaam hai ye
chhoo lene do naazuk hothhon ko
kuchh aur nahin hai jaam hai ye
qudrat ne jo hamko bakshaa hai
wo sabse haseen inaam hai ye
chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko
sharmaa ke na yoon hi kho denaa
rangeen jawaani ki ghadiyaan
sharmaa ke na yoon hi kho denaa
rangeen jawaani ki ghadiyaan
betaab dhadakte seenon kaa
armaan bharaa paigaam hai ye
chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko
kuchh aur nahin hai jaam hai ye
chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko
achchhon ko buraa saabit karnaa
duniyaa ki puraani aadat hai
achchhon ko buraa saabit karnaa
duniyaa ki puraani aadat hai
is mai ko mubaarak cheez samajh
maanaa ke bahut badnaam hai ye
chhoo lene do naazuk honthon ko
kuchh aur nahin hai jaam hai ye
qudrat ne jo hamko bakshaa hai
wo sabse haseen inaam hai ye
