Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Meri jaan mujhe jaan na kaho

Posted on: March 2, 2009

I know that “Anubhav” was an art movie ( as off beat small budget movies were called those days) and I was aware that it has one nice song by Manna Dey, viz “hansne ki chaah ne kitna mujhe rulaaya hai”. I have posted this song in the blog sometime back.

But apparently this movie had more nice songs. It is just that I never heard these songs, But Lalitha, the regular reader of this blog remembers them and she has given her farmaish for as many as three songs from this movie about whom I had no idea.

Here is a very nice song sung by Geeta Dutt. Considering that this movie was released in 1971 and Geeta Dutt died around the same time, this must be the final time when her wonderful voice was heard in a Bollywood movie.

And what a superb song. This songs failed to take off during its days because there were far too many good songs being created those days and movies that failed often spelled doom for the prospects of the songs in the movie. And that is what happened with the songs of this movie.

Have no worry. In this blog, we search for such songs and try to bring them to the notice of music fans. And I am pleased to bring this song to the notice of the readers of this blog. And I also thank Lalitha for bringing this song to my notice.

It was one of the records we bought at the time for the music, so I heard these a lot at home.
Geeta is superb and the unusually light orchestration is a fantastic idea.

Koi chupke se aake is another famous number.

i am not sure but I think Geeta was up for awards for these songs or the music composer was (not sure whether Filmfare or National).
AIR music programmes used to play them a lot.

Thanks a bunch, Atul, for playing one of my favorite Geeta Dutt songs. I have always loved the quiet beauty of this song, with the raindrops as background. I don’ t know if this movie was a hit but the songs certainly were. Thanks again.

Each of these songs is a gem .
Yes it was Geeta Dutt’s swansong.
And yes again she nor the music of this film or the film itself got its due !
We used to have records of the songs . And yes I do have them in my collection of music even now . But it is such a treat to be able to watch them . Thanks .

P.S. Since you have managed to collect pieces of the movie with the songs , I suggest you try to get hold of the movie too . It was particularly good for its undertones . The black and white especially highlighted the humdrum of daily life . The icing on the cake is the early morning signature tune of AIR that would herald the day in many a household !

A real gem sung by Geeta Dutt , and may be termed as her last song .Dinesh Thakur is shown along with Tanuja in the video , while Sanjeev Kumar is the male protagonist . MD KANU Roy is I think is the brother of Geeta Duty . Before marrying Guru Dutt , she used to be Geeta Roy .

I think the lyrics here are incorrect…please consider revising.

Jaan na kaho anjaan mujhe
Jaan kahaan rehti hai sada
Anjaane kya jaane, jaan ke jaaye kaun bhala

Sookhe saawan baras gaye
Kitne baar in aankhon se
Do boonden na barse in bheegi palkon se

Honth jhuke jab honthon par
Saans uljhi ho saanson mein
Do judwa honthon ki baat kaho aankhon se

Thanks!

Speciality of the song. Only the vibraphone instrument and Geeta Ji’s voice with no rhythm instruments. Gulzars lyrics also require special mention

Vibraphone in this song was played by Burjor Lord, younger brother of Kersi Lord.
