Chori chori aag si dil mein lagaakar

Here is another song that I never heard before. Not only is this song “new” for me, even the singer is “new” for me.
The singer is someone called Sulochana Kadam. Lyricist Aziz Kashmiri and music director Shyam Sundar are relatively better known in comparison as far as I am concerned.
And It is such a refreshing change to listen to a “new” voice. And I must say that I loved this song the very first time I listened to it today.
And the song is picturised on Meena Shorey. Recently I had read a detailed account of her life in a forum and people, including me wondered if any video of her was available anywhere. Here is a song where one can actually watch her.
That way, this song is quite a rare and special song, sung by a forgotten singer and picturised on a forgotten actress. Incidentally Ajit was the hero of this movie.

Hi Atul,
Nice song of a most beautiful girl even by today’s standards. Meena Shorey is still the heartthrb of any one who sees her photos and available videos like Lara Lappa and I am no exception!
In fact, I am trying to collect just all and whatever videos, pictures and memories of hers that are available on this planet. I am especially moved by the fact that such beautiful girl had to resort to begging at a film function in 1983 and that she met a tragic death, with nobody besides her at that time.
In her last days, she expressed in an interview in a paper that she felt like being a dried up tree amongst greenery around, that everybody wants to chop off. For all of I know about this interview is that it was conducted by one Pulkit Sharma. She passed away two years after this interview. I shall be obliged if anybody is able to provide me the details.
It is very hurting to know that her last rites were conducted by raising money from charity.
If you can provide just any details on Meena Shorey, that will be great as a treasure.
By the way, I can give you some details on the singer of this song ‘SULOCHANA KADAM’. Sulochana Kadam came from a very small villege near Pune in Maharashtra. Its name is Birwadi, in Mahad Taluka, Raigad District. She became Sulochana Chavan after marriage. In Maharashtra, she is famous for her ‘Lavani’s. like ‘Jalimandi pikali karawanda, Aii mala nesawa shalu nava, Tuzya usala lagela kolha etc. All the lavnis are in Marathi.

Sulochana Kadam (now Chavan) is not a forgotten singer. Only last week I saw her interview in one of Marathi TV channels. Even at this age, she sang one of her Marathi lavanis in a very clear voice.
She was awarded Lata Mangeshkar award for the year 2010 by Government of Maharashtra.

Lyricist of this song is Shyam Lal Shums, not Aziz Kashmiri. Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist of the other fine songs in Dholak.
