Chhodo sanam kaahe ka gham

In 1980s, “disco” songs became the rage in Bollywood. This “disco” epidemic was endemic in Bollywood movies for about 5-6 years. Most “disco” tunes were direct lifts of westen numbers.
Bappi Lahiri was the music director who was in the forefront of “disco” music. Even senior music directors like R D Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji etc were forced to jump into the “disco” bandwagon.
Every mainstream movie, whatever be its topic, was required to have a “disco” song in it. “Kudrat”(1981) which had a few all time classic award winning non disco songs, had one disco songs in it too, like every other movie of those days.
Here is the “disco” song composed by R D Burman in ‘Kudrat” (1981). It was sung by Annette Pinto and Kishore Kumar. It was picturised on Kalpana Iyer, Vinod Khanna and Hema Malini.
Not just senior music directors, even senior lyricists were forced to write “disco” songs. It was Majrooh Sultanpuri, a veteran of countless memorable non disco songs who wrote this “disco” song.
