Phaili huyi hain sapnon ki baahen

on:ed”House no 44″ (1955) is a movie that few present day fans know much about. But listening to the songs of this movie is a pleasant surprise.
When I read the lyrics ‘phaili hui hain nigahen” in youtube and read some fulsome praise about this song, I wonder what the fuss was all about. But when I finally heard the song, I realised that I had been exposed to this song in the past, even though I never bothered to pay much attention to its lyrics at that time. And yes, the praise that this song gets from music lovers is richly deserved.
This song is sung by Lata and picturised on Kalpana Kartik. Sahir Ludhianvi has written this beautiful song, and S D Burman has composed this wonderful music. It is indeed a “Chaayageet” song, what with words like “sapnon” and “fizaa” finding mention liberally in this song.

Lyrics
aaa aaa
phaili huyin hain sapnon ki baahen
aajaa chal den kahin door
wahin meri manzil wahin teri raahen
aajaa chal den kahin door
phaili huyin hain sapnon ki baahen
aajaa chal den kahin door
wahin meri manzil wahin teri raahen
aajaa chal den kahin door
oonchi ghata ke saaye tale chhip jaayen
dhundhli fizaa mein kuchh khoyen kuchh paayen
oonchi ghaat ke
oonchi ghata ke saaye tale chhip jaayen
dhundhli fizaa mein kuchh khoyen kuchh paayen
saanson ki lay par koyi aisi dhun gaayen
dede jo dil ko dil ki panaahen
aajaa chal den kahin door
phaili huyi hain sapnon ki baahen
aajaa chal den kahin door
aaa aaa aa aaa
jhoolaa dhanak kaa dheere dheere ham jhoolen
ambar to kyaa hai taaron ke bhi lab chhoolen
jhoolaa dhanak kaa
jhoolaa dhanak kaa dheere dheere ham jhoolen
ambar to kyaa hai taaron ke bhi lab chhoolen
masti mein jhoolen aur sabhi gham bhoolen
dekhen na peeche mudke nigaahen
aajaa chal den kahin door …
phailin huyin hain sapnon ki baahen

What a brilliant song this is in terms of Saahirs lyrics, Burman da’s music composition and Lata jis voice. believe it’s based on Bhoop Kalyan or Shudhh Kalyan. Thank you Atul for bringing it back to me !

This song is beautiful. It made me extremely nostalgic remembering that I used to listen to this song on my dad’s cassette recorded from the radio. Thanks.
