Saa re ga ma…Gaa re mere sang mere saajnaa

Posted on: July 17, 2009

“Abhinetri'(1970) was one of the earlier movies of Hema Malini. Here she was paired up with Shashi Kapoor.

The movie had several nice songs which were very popular, especially with kids like me.

Here is perhaps the most popular song from this movie. I had forgotten all about this song. It was nice to listen to this song again after more than three decades.

This song is sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist whereas Laxminkant Pyarelal composed the music.

The picturisation is quite colourful, and Hema Malini in her orange dress looks stunning. Shashi Kapoor, looks rather lighterweight in comparison and is seen struggling while trying to lift her, much to my amusement. It was only later that moviemakers paired him up with Dharmendra and they became the hottest pair of the decade of 1970s.

Lovely song. And indeed Hema looks gorgeous.

wasn’t shashi kapoor one of the cuter kapoors? and when hema tries to make him shake his hips its the highlight i suppose, what say?
oh and by the way the line is “Saajan Mazaa Tab Hai Jeene Me; SAANS Ho Meri Teri Seene Me”.
and the last line picturisation was something lovely

Is may koi shak nahi k Hema is stunning gorgeous dazzling and tinsel queen–lakin is say barh k ya haqeeqat bhi hay k indian cinema history ma song picturisation ma us ko jo kamal hasil hay wo kisi aur ko nahi—and this claim can be prove by watching different songs which were picturised on her.

i just realized that this song was posted when there was no colour coding. and also Atulji, at that time you used to write the lyrics directly from where the song started and not from the absolute beginning where Hema tries to teach Shashi Kapoor singing.
this i have noticed in many posts of the initial years of the blog. the blog has really come a long way and changed style over the years

When I was growing up, there used to be a radio program called Hava Mahel – from 9:15 to 9:30. It was meant to air a short story or a play that lasted for just 15 minutes. 9:30 was my curfew for going to sleep during my early childhood. The final signature tune of this show was a signal for me to go to sleep. Later I started listening to the show regularly. When I first saw Abhinetri in the theater, I immediately remembered having heard this original story on Hava Mahel. It was a 15 minute story that was made into a full length movie! I believe the story was written by a well known author – I can’t remember the name.

Here is the YT link to HM tune for those of you old enough to remember this show.
