O Laxmi O Sarsu

Posted on: August 26, 2009

I was neither aware of this movie nor this song. The movie is “Kahin Aur Chal” (1969).

Shailendra wrote this song and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music. Rafi is the singer.

This song must be one of the last songs written by Shailendra seeing that he had died in 1966.

The video of this song is not available, but the audio conveys the mood very well. This is a song that could be called a light hearted romantic song. I herad this song for the first time only recently, and I liked this song.

Song-O Laxmi o Sarsu (Kahin aur Chal ) (1969) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD- Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

O Laxmi O Sarsu O Sheila O Rajni
O Laxmi O Sarsu O Sheila O Rajni
dekho kyaa kyaa lekar aaya ye mausam is baar
wo ghulaab bhi khilega shaayad jiska naam hai pyaar
O Laxmi O Sarsu

aa gayin chanchal hawaayen geet gaane
dil ki duniya mein nayi halchal machaane
pyaar ke din hain mohabbat ke zamaane
chup na baitho tum bhi chhedo ye taraane
O Laxmi O Sarsu
O Laxmi O Sarsu O Sheila O Rajni
o dekho kyaa kyaa lekar aaya ye mausam is baar
wo ghulaab bhi khilega shaayad jiska naam hai pyaar
O Laxmi O Sheila

zindagi armaan bankar gungunaayi
ik nayi pahchaan bankar muskuraayi
bekhudi ye kis jahaan mein kheench aayi
har taraf se bas yahi aawaaz aayi
O Laxmi O Sarsu
O Laxmi O Sarsu O Sheila O Rajni
o dekho kyaa kyaa lekar aaya ye mausam is baar
wo ghulaab bhi khilega shaayad jiska naam hai pyaar
O Laxmi O Sarsu

ham se bhi kuchh kah rahin hain ye fizaayen
sabr dil ka aajmaatin hain ghataayen
chhedtin hain hamko bhi natkhat adaayen
phir bhi kyun mazboor hain ham kyaa bataayen
O Laxmi O Sarsu
O Laxmi O Sarsu O Sheila O Rajni
dekho kyaa kyaa lekar aaya
ye mausam is baar

This film was only recently brought to my attention and I cannot believe it’s not on DVD! Vijay Anand directing Dev Anand and Asha Parekh! Makes no sense at all.

*Sigh*

The movie barely got a release and there used to be a poster of this film opposite the current site of ShivSena Bhavan in Mumbai. Very special spot for me as I was born in the building next to that poster site!

This is a project I have given Greta – I hope she is able to find a DVD of this movie and write up a review of this movie. Really looking forward to it. 🙂

This song is indeed a lovely light-hearted song. Rafi saab’s evergreen voice. And the way he softly says “O Laxmi, O Sarsu” in the middle of each stanza is sheer class.
