Raahi manwa dukh ki chinta kyun sataati hai

Posted on: December 29, 2008

I have already mentioned that the movie “Dosti” (1964) was made memorable thanks to its music. Rafi sang some immortal songs in this movie and Laxmikant Pyarelal’s career was launched big time with this movie.

I have already posted a few songs from this movie. Here is another such song, and it is another evergreen Rafi song. This is a philosophical song written by Majrooh, about sadness and happiness and tells us that one should not worry too much about sadness which is a permanent companion unlike happiness which continues to ebb and flow.

It is a superb song, just like the other songs from this movie.

Song-Raahi manwa dukh ki chinta kyun sataati hai (Dosti ) (1964) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

dukh ho yaa sukh
jab sadaa sang rahe na koyi
phir dukh ko apnaayiye
ke jaaye to dukh na hoye

raahi manwaa dukh ki chintaa kyun sataati hai
dukh to apnaa saathi hai
raahi manwaa dukh ki chintaa kyun sataati hai
dukh to apnaa saathi hai
sukh hai ik chhaanv dhalti aati hai jaati hai
dukh to apnaa saathi hai
raahi manwaa dukh ki chintaa kyun sataati hai
dukh to apnaa saathi hai

door hai manzil door sahi
pyaar hamaaraa kyaa kam hai
pag mein kaante laakh sahi
par ye sahaaraa kyaa kam hai
hamraah tere koyi apnaa to hai
hamraah tere koyi apnaa to hai
o…, sukh hai ek chhaanv dhalti
aati hai jaati hai
dukh to apna saathi hai
raahi manwa dukh ki chinta kyun sataati hai
dukh toi apna saathi hai…

dukh ho koyi tab jab jalte hain
path ke deep nigaahon mein
itni badi is duniyaa ki
lambi akeli raahon mein
hamraah tere koyi apnaa to hai
hamraah tere koyi apnaa to hai
o…, sukh hai ek chhaanv dhalti
aati hai jaati hai
dukh to apna saathi hai
raahi manwa dukh ki chinta kyun sataati hai
dukh toi apna saathi hai…
dukh to apnaa saathi hai
dukh to apnaa saathi hai

The harmonica for this song as well as other songs of DOSTI (1964) was played by R D Burman on a special request from Pyarelal.

By the way, Laxmikant-Pyarelal were music arranger for R D Burman’s first music directorial venture CHHOTE NAWAB (1961).

All songs from Dosti are immortal. This particular song still sounds refreshing regardless how many times you listen to it.

“dukh ho yaa sukh jab sadaa sang rahe na koyi
phir dukh ko apnaayiye ke jaaye to dukh na hoye”

These two lines says everything. The whole philosophy of a Human life.

Dosti I think is one of those few movies where all songs are hit and all are solos. Any other movie comes to anyone mind with all solo songs?

Let me guess!!!!!
All lata songs in Shankar jaikishen`s Amrapali(exception one dance song sung by chorus-“naacho gaao” but all other solos by lataji)
&
laxmikant pyarelal`s
BAHAARON KI MANZIL(dharmendra,meenakumari-all lata solos)
I may be wrong, Please correct me if I am wrong.

Dosti contains all rafi solos and one lata solo?????
