“Qaidi no 911” (1959) was a “B grade” movie in the sense that it was an action thriller and it had Sheikh Mukhtar as action hero. When I say it was a B grade movie, I mean no disrespect. In fact, I think movies like this with Sheikh Mukhtar as hero were as good as the A grade action movies of 1970s. Yes, action movies had begun to be regarded as A grade by 1970s.
I never tire of mentioning that even the so called B grade movies of 1950s were A grade as far as their music was concerned. This is certainly the case with this movie.
The most well known song of this movie is “meethi meethi baaton se bachna zara”. It is sung by Lata and Daisy Irani. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Dattaram composed the music.
What was not known to me is that this song has two versions. The first (faster version) is the better known version. It is picturised on Daisy Irani and Nanda. Nanda is seen apeing the mannerisms of Meena Kumari and resembing Meena Kumari from many angles in this song.
The slower version of the song comer later in the movie and it is part of the climax, from what I can see. Here Nanda sings this song to locate Daisy Irani who has been kidnapped by baddies. Towards the end of the song , Daisy responds to the song and that enables Nanda ( not to speak of Sheikh Mukhtar and Mukri) to get an idea about the whereabouts of Daisy Irani.
In fact, watching the picturisation of this song makes me want to watch this movie.

B Grade music directors like N.Datta, G.S.Kohli. Dattaram., Arjun were as good as A Grade Film Music directors.

Please don’t call these great music directors B Grade. Dattaram, G. S. Kohli, N. Datta and C. Arjun were great music directors who had the misfortune of composing music for B grade movies. That does not in any way make them B grade music directors. Their music was in fact awesome, as good as that of the music in the A grade movies.

Its my fav song….my mom(Jyothi) used to sing dis song often to make me realise abt da world…i love my mom n lata mangeshkar ji a lottttt:)

I used to love this song in my younger days! Yes, Nanda used to spend her time in weepy movies those days, until Jab Jab Phool Khile came and then she realized she was so much better in those roles. Until then, she was just a poor man’s Meena Kumari.
This movie had another nice song also, by Manna Dey and Lata:
