Chitragupta is known as a music director, but just like a few other fellow music directors, he too had come to Bombay hoping to make it big as a singer, rather than as a music director. He became the assistant of S N Tripathi and then soon landed his first movie as an independent music director in 1946.
While composing songs, he sometimes sang in his songs too. Here is a lovely song from “Manchala”(1953). The song is “Bhagwaan tujhe main khat likhtaa par tera pataa maaloom nahin”. It is written by Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and Chitragupta himself was the music director as well.
Now a days this has become a forgotten song but this song was quite popular when it was first released. And listening to this song is sung a nice experience.

It is nice to realise that the blog now has hundreds of songs are are difficult to come across. I can take pride in the fact that this blog offers full lyrics for all songs. There are rare songs whose lyrics are available only here, and that I feel is a nice achievement.
I am thinking of bringing out some more improvements in the blog.

Hearing this also for the first time and I liked this one too.
I have listened to so many songs for the first time here on your site only, Atul.
I feel very humbled – and also enriched by hearing these songs.
If it were not for you, many of these songs would just be out there, “gathering dust”, in a manner of speaking.
