Duniya mujhse kahti hai ke peena chhod de

Modern day TV watchers are familiar with Ekta Kapoor’s (Jeetendra’s daughter) TV serials. No, I am not talking about their content (which is trashy in any case) but about their titles. All of these titles have to start with “K”. Even where there is no scope for the letter “K” in the beginning of the title, this letter is somehow made to appear in the beginning of the title. If she decides to make a serial on “Atul’s blog”, then it would be called “Kahaani Atul’s blog ki” or ” Kyunki Atul ka bhi ek blog hai”.
But Ekta Kapoor was not the first person to be obsessed with the letter K. More than three decades ago, before she was even born, we had movie producer director Arjun Hingorani who was just as obsessed with the letter “K”. In his case, the letter “K” in fact appeared not once or twice, but thrice.
Take this movie for example. It is called “Kahani Kismat Ki” (1973). Subsequently he came up with “Khel Khiladi ka”, “Kaatilon Ke kaatil”, “Karishma Kudrat Ka” etc.
As can be gauged from the titles, these movies were based on the “lost and found” formula, where siblings would get separated during their childhood and meet again after growing up.
The lead male grown up in these movies tended to be Dharmendra, though other lead actors kept varying.
“Kahani Kismat ki” (1973) had some superb music by Kalyanji Anandji. The most well known song from this movie was the tapori cum romantic song “Rafta rafta dekho aankh meri ladi hai””, which is already posted here.
Here is another song of the same tapori genre. It goes “duniya mujhse kahti hai ke peena chhod de, ye kyun nahin kahti hai ke jaalim jeena chhod de”. The songs of this movie were written by veteran lyricist Rajinder Krishan. This song is sung by Kishore Kumar. It is picturised on Dharmendra and Rekha.
The song has been forgotten now a days, but what a lovely song it is !

Song-Duniya mujhse kahti hai ke peena chhod se (Kahaani Kismat Ki) (1973) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics
duniyaa mujhse kahti hai ke peenaa chhod de
peenaa chhod de
duniyaa mujhse kahti hai ke peenaa chhod de
ye kyun nahin kahti hai ke zaalim
jeenaa chhod de jeenaa chhod de
jeenaa chhod de jeenaa chhod de
kyaa samjhe ye duniyaa kyaa jaane ye duniyaa
kyaa samjhe ye duniyaa kyaa jaane ye duniyaa
kitnaa mushqil hai ye zindagi kaa safar
kitnaa mushqil hai ye zindagi kaa safar
maut aankhen dikhaati hai har mod par
gham se ghabraake main jo sharaab na piyun
gham se ghabraake main jo sharaab na piyun
to kah do mere doston main kaise jiyun
duniyaa mujhse
duniyaa mujhse kahti hai ke
peenaa chhod de peenaa chhod de
ye kyun nahin kahti hai ke zaalim
jeenaa chhod de jeenaa chhod de
jeenaa chhod de jeenaa chhod de
kyaa samjhe ye duniyaa kyaa jaane ye duniyaa
kyaa samjhe ye duniyaa kyaa jaane ye duniyaa
meri behoshiyon ko na ilzaam do
meri behoshiyon ko na ilzaam do
ho sake to mujhe aur ik jaam do
mere din raat peene mein ik raaz hai
mere din raat peene mein ik raaz hai
mere marne mein jeene kaa andaaz hai
duniyaa mujhse
duniyaa mujhse kahti hai ke peenaa chhod de
ke peenaa chhod de
ye kyun nahin kahti hai ke zaalim
jeenaa chhod de jeenaa chhod de
jeenaa chhod de jeenaa chhod de
kyaa samjhe ye duniyaa kyaa jaane ye duniyaa
kyaa samjhe ye duniyaa kyaa jaane ye duniyaa

I seriously love the music so much from Khel Khilari Ka, although I only found one or two of them on youtube 😦
I’ve seen this film although I don’t remember much about it…but should revisit the songs for sure 🙂
