Dekhte hi tujhe mere dil ne kahaa

Posted on: August 9, 2010

I have talked about “teasing” songs in Bollywood movies. In these songs, the boy typically would tease a girl outdoors. But I just realised that this teasing can take place even indoors, and that too in the presence of others. Yes, get together songs offer an ideal opportunity to the boy to tease the girl in full public glare.

Here is one such song from “Parivaar” (1967). Our hero, Jeetendra is asked to sing a song, and Jeetendra, like a dutiful Hindi movie hero, uses this opportunity to sing a song addressing Nanda, the heroine and Nanda is embarrased with this attention, like a dutiful Hindi movie heroine should.

Of course a full party of aquaintances are present on the occasion and that makes Nanda even more uncomfortable. If course, people like Rajendranath and Tuntun are also available and Rajendranath wonders why people are not letting their hair down as they should.

I have become some sort of an expert in teasing song and I know when the “teased” is going to melt and start liking the teasing. It happens in the last stanza of the song, in the penultimate line of the song to be precise. And that is how it happens in this song too.

This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor. Gulshan Baawra is the lyricist and Kalyanji Anandji composed the music. This song is a rare song, which is not easily available. And as one can see, it is a nice song to listen to.

song-Dekhte hi tujhe mere dil ne kahaa (Parivaar) (1967) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-Gulshan Baawra,MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

Dekhte hi tujhe mere dil ne kahaa
dekhte hi tujhe mere dil ne kahaa
zindagi bhar tujhe dekhtaa hi rahoon
dekhtaa hi rahoon
jaane kyaa baat hai saadgi mein teri
jaane kyaa baat hai saadgi mein teri
bas nazar se tujhe choomtaa hi rahoon
choomtaa hi rahoon

tera apnaa azab ek andaaz hai
tera apnaa azab ek andaaz hai
teri aankhon mein masti bharaa raaz hai
meri nazron ne aankhon ne chaahaa tujhe
aaj apni nazar pe mujhe naaz hai
har adaa mein teri hai qayaamat sanam
har adaa mein teri hai qayaamat sanam
bas qayaamat se main kheltaa hi rahoon
kheltaa hi rahoon
dekhte hi tujhe mere dil ne kahaa
zindagi bhar tujhe dekhtaa hi rahoon
dekhtaa hi rahoon

muskuraa ke jo dekha hai toone idhar
ho
muskuraa ke jo dekha hai toone idhar
maine dil mein chhupa li jo teri nazar
poojtaa hi rahoon
dekhte hi tujhe mere dil ne kahaa
zindagi bhar tujhe dekhtaa hi rahoon
dekhtaa hi rahoon

You cracked the pattern like it was some math formula.

LOL.

I was watching a “teasing” song today and exactly this happened. Penultimate line of last stanza!!! Unfortunately. I don’t remember the song now.(In a day I listen to at least 20-30 songs).
