Nazren uthaa ke zaraa dekh le

With time, most movie personalities become typecast in our minds, and we expect their performances to conform to our preconceived notions.
For example, when one talks of Anita Guha, many people may be reminded of her title role in “Jai Santoshi Ma”. When one talks of a song being picturised on Kishore Kumar, one expects him to be singing it. When one thinks of a Madan Mohan composition, one expects it to be a ghazal sung by Lata.
This particular song throws all these preconceived notions out of the window. Here is a song from “Chaacha Zindaabaad” (1959) where all the above mentioned persons are seen playing rather unexpected roles.
This is a dance song, and that too a western kind of dance song. Anita Guha is seen dressed in tight pants (and later in a more traditional dress) and dancing away in gay abandon. Kishore Kumar is also there in the picturisation, but his role is confined to playing second fiddle or rather blowing his own trumpet.
And no, it is not a Lata-Madan Mohan ghazal, rather it is an Asha Bhonsle-Madan Mohan western song, which sounds like it could well be an Asha Bhonsle-O P Nayyar composition.
Asha Bhonsle of course sings with her characteristic gusto.
