Bhool jaa ae dil muhabbat ka fasaanaa

Sajjad Hussain was a music director who could create amazing music but his ability to make enemies meant that he got very few opportunities to showcase his abilities as a music director. He composed only about one hundred songs in 14 movies. He was described by Anil Biswas as the only original music director in Hindi movies. Coming from Anil Biswas, it is very high praise indeed !
I have so far discussed 16 Sajjad Hussain songs spanning over 6 movies. Here is another song from another movie.
This song is from “Khel” (1950) which had Dev Anand, Nihgal Sultana, Nargis etc in lead roles.
I have no idea about the picturisation of this song. The song is sung by Lata and the song is written by Shams Azimabadi.
The song is amazing to listen to, as one would expect from a Sajjad Hussain composition.
Here is this rare gem from “Khel” (1950).
song-Bhool jaa ae dil muhabbat ka fasaanaa (Khel) (1950) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shams Azimabadi, MD-Sajjad Hussain
Lyrics
bhool jaa ae dil muhabbat kaa fasaanaa
kisi se dil lagaanaa
phir na aayegaa palat kar wo zamaanaa
wo sapnaa thaa suhaanaa
yaad aati hain tujhe
ab kyun wo raaten pyaar ki
aur wo baaten pyaar ki
yaad aati hain tujhe
ab kyun wo raaten pyaar ki
aur wo baaten pyaar ki
bhool jaa ulfat ke meethe geet gaanaa
wo sapnaa thhaa suhaanaa
bhool jaa ae dil muhabbat kaa fasaanaa
kisi se dil lagaanaa
teraa gulshan lut gayaa
teraa gulshan lut gayaa
teraa nasheman jal gayaa
haay jal gayaa
din khushi kaa dhal gayaa
ab wo gulshan hai
naa ab wo aashiyaanaa
wo sapnaa thaa suhaanaa
bhool jaa ae dil muhabbat kaa fasaanaa
kisi se dil lagaanaa
ab to saari zindagi
aansoo bahaanaa hai tujhe
dil jalaanaa hai tujhe
ab to saari zindagi
aansoo bahaanaa hai tujhe
dil jalaanaa hai tujhe
ab kahaan qismat mein teri muskuraanaa
wo sapanaa thaa suhaanaa
bhool jaa ae dil muhabbat kaa fasaanaa
kisi se dil lagaanaa

Out of all songs by Sajjad Hussain this superb song is closest to my heart.
Whenever I listen to Lata singing for Sajjad I recall one of her TV interviews where she said that he was very fussy about what he wanted out of her performance – “Main bahut tang aa jaati thi”.
