Zindagi badli muhabbat ka mazaa aane lagaa

In Hindi movies, one actor normally lip sync in the voice of one playback singer. But there are exceptions, when he/she sings different songs in the voice of different singers.
Then there is the other extreme, where the same singer gives playback for all the actors of the movie. One had this situation in movies with O P Nayyar’s music, where all female actors needed to lip sync in Asha Bhonsle’s voice and all male singers sang in Rafi’s voice.
What about those cases where the actor plays double role and both characters need to sing ? I have noticed that the same rules apply, viz both of them sing in the voice of the same singer.
Now, what about the situation when the two characters of double role sing a duet ? One will then obviously need to be able to distinguish between the two and so they will need to sing in different voices.
One may be wondering if I am talking hypothetically. After all, what are the odds that the two double role characters are going to sing in a movie, let alone sing the same song. Well, it has happened at least once in a Hindi movie where the two double role characters have sung a duet. This happened in Anhonee (1952) where Nargis plays double role.
Here is this unusual song where the two Nargises sing a song. One of them (the good Nargis) sings in Lata’s voice and the other Nargis (the bad one) sings in Rajkumari’s voice.
Nakshab is the lyricist and Roshan is the music director.
