Mehfil mein jal uthhi shamaa parwaane ke liye

Posted on: December 4, 2010

“Niraalaa” (1950) was a movie in which two newcomers named Madhubala and Dev Anand played the lead roles. I am sure this movie was a box office success. The movie has been forgotten with time, but its songs are unforgettable.

The song, which became the most popular and remain so is the “get together” song where Madhubala is asked to sing a song in front of a gathering (which looks to me like a gathering for a wedding function).

This song is sung by Lata. The lyrics by P L Santoshi are just superb. C Ramchandra is the music director.

Here is this timeless classic from “Niraalaa” (1950).

Song-Mehfil mein jal uthhi shamaa parwaane ke liye (Niraalaa) (1950) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-P L Santoshi, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa,
mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa
parwaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniyaa mein,
mar jaane ke liye
mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa,
parwaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniyaa mein,
mar jaane ke liye

chaaron taraf lagaaye phere,
phir bhi hardam door rahe
ulfat dekho aag bani hai,
milne se majboor rahe
yahi sazaa hai duniyaa mein
yahi sazaa hai duniyaa mein ,
deewaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniyaa mein,
mar jaane ke liye
mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa,
parwaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniyaa mein,
mar jaane ke liye

marne ka hai naam muhabbat,
jalne ka hai naam jawaani
patthar dil hain sunane waale,
kahne waalaa aankh ka paani
aansoo aaye aankhon mein
aansoo aaye aankhon mein ,
gir jaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniyaa mein,
mar jaane ke liye
mehfil mein jal uthi shamaa,
parwaane ke liye
preet bani hai duniyaa mein,
mar jaane ke liye
