Tum bin jeewan kaisa jeewan

Madan Mohan may often be typedcast in the minds of many music lovers as a composer of ghazals, mainly with Lata and to some extent with Rafi. But Madan Mohan was a versatile music director. I have listened to many Madan Mohan songs of other genres as well and I have posted them too.
Madan Mohan in fact could get the best out of all singers he worked with. At present I am travelling by train and internet connectivity is as a premium for me. Still I would like to discuss some special songs on the special occasion of this blog completing threee years today. Yes, this blog began its musical journey on 18 july 2008, and now, after exactly three years, we have come a long way.
We have discussed popular songs, and we have discussed not so popular songs. We have discussed rare songs too, and in fact there are rare songs which became available on internet for the first time in this blog. And we have been discussing interesting and often lesser known facts about Hindi movies and their songs, as well as the personalities involved.
This musical caravan has been gathering strength and it is hearening to see so many likeminded music lovers exchanging ideas, views and information on this blog.
This blog is not a blog on a populist subject, this blog is on a topic that calls for more than casual interest of the part of the followers of this subject. So it must be said that most regulars vising the blog are genuinely interested in the contents that are discussed in this blog.
I have digressed from the topic of Madan Mohan. Madan Mohan has composed some nice semi classical songs too, especially with Manna Dey. Who can forget Kaun aaya mere man ke dwaare paayal ki jhankaar liye(Dekh Kabira Roya) and also Har taraf ab yahi afsaane hain (Hindustan Ki Kasam)
Here is another wonderful semi classical song composed by Madan Mohan. This song is from “Baawarchi” (1972). This song is sung wonderfully well by Manna Dey and it is picturised on Rajesh Khanna.
Just as Madan Mohan is typedcast in our minds as a ghazal composer, lyricist Kaifi Azmi too is thought of as a shayar , but here he proves that he was equally apept in writing chaste Hindi lyrics.
Here is this awesome semi classical song from “Baawarchi” (1972) for the music lovers to savour.

tum bin jeewan kaisa jeewan
tum bin jeewan kaisa jeewan
phool khile to dil murjhaaye
phool khile to dil murjhaaye
aag lage jab barse saawan
tum bin jeewan kaisa jeewan
tum bin jeewan
roothhe tum jab se piyaa
roothhe tum jab se
soonaa sa hai man ka deraa
bairi hai duniyaa
bairi hai duniyaa
baante koi kyun dukh mera
apne aansoo apna hi daaman
tum bin jeewan kaisa jeewan
tum bin jeewan
kisko samjhaaun
kisko samjhaaun
guzri kyaa kyaa
beeti kyaa kyaa
pooche ye duniyaa
pooche ye duniyaa
kiske haathhon ye dil tootaa
haal huaa ye kiske kaaran
tum bin jeewan kaisa jeewan
phool khile to dil murjhaaye
aag lage jab barse saawan
tum bin jeewan kaisa jeewan
tum bin jeewan

I love this song. I may be prejudiced, but I feel like nobody sang these semi-classical songs as well as Manna Dey! Of course, that is my personal opinion, but I could listen to his songs all day long and never complain of boredom or loud screechy singing.
Thanks for this gem on this historic day, Atul!
