Most Raakhi songs in Hindi movies are sung by females playing non working sisters and they genuinely pray for the well being of their sisters. With time, even sisters in Hindi movies have become working women. And they do not just do the usual jobs meant for ladies, but they often work in jobs of masculine nature, viz in police.
Here Hema Malini plays a police waali and she is after her own brother Rajnikanth who is systematically killing the murderes of their parents and sister one by one. And here Hema Malini shows sisterly affection towards Rajnikanth hoping to trap him into recording his confession into a hidden tape recorder. The sympathies of movie watchers are obviusly with Rajnikanth and the movie watchers’ joys need no bounds when Rajnikanth outwits his sister.
But that would follow later. For now, Here is the rakhi song picturised on Rajnikanth and Hema Malini. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. Kishore Kumar has sung this song fabulously well. What a voice ! His voice had several dimensions and he has not received enough credit for that , I feel. One reason could be that these dimensions cannot easily be explained in words.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and music is composed by Laxmiknat Pyarelal.
