In show business, it is not enough to just silently go about your job behind the scene. One needs to be in the limelight and one needs to keep lobbying with influential people who can help advance one’s career. People who are good in their jobs as well as good in Public relations forge ahead whereas others, who may be equally good if not so, may find themselves underappreciated.
I am a great fan of Ravi. Appreciating prima donnas and taking silent performers for granted, that may be the way of the world, but we must realise that it is silent workers who contribute more than the prima donnas of the world. and that applies in the field of Hindi movie music as well. And he fulfilled the basic rquirement of success. His music was always successful, and his movies were successful too.
In most movies, there are one or two good songs, but Ravi was one music director whose movies were full of nice songs. And many of them went on to become timeless classics, and a few of them became iconic songs. In fact, I describe Ravi as the creator of iconic songs. Take any topic, and you will find an iconic song composed by Ravi.
Ravi was one of those music directors who got along well with prima donnas too. For instance, most major music directors stopped working with Sahir Ludhianvi after Sahir Ludhianvi began to ask for more remuneration that music directors. Ravi did not have any such ego problems and he let Sahir Ludhianvi take a token one rupee more than him. And their association has given us some memerable songs.
Shakeel Badayuni was also one lyricist who had mostly worked with Naushad in his career and he was very nervous when he began working with Ravi. But Ravi, as was his wont, churned out one hit song after another while working with Shakeel Badayuni.
I have discussed as many as three memorable songs from “Door Ki Aawaaz”. But as mentioned above, movies with Ravi’s music were full of nice songs, so there are indeed more songs in this movie that deserve to be included.
Here is one such song. This song is sung by Rafi. it is picturised on Joy Mukherji and Saira Bano Listening to this wonderful song is a divine experience.

Song-Husn se chaand bhi sharmaayaa hai (Door Ki Aawaaz) (1964) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ravi
Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
Husn se chaand bhi sharmaaya hai
teri soorat ne ghazab dhaaya hai
husn se chaand bhi sharmaaya hai
teri soorat ne ghazab dhaaya hai
haaye in pyaar mein doobi huyee aankhon ki qasam
haaye in pyaar mein doobi huyee aankhon ki qasam
aadmi kya hai farishton ke behak jaayen qadam
aadmi kya hai farishton ke behak jaayein qadam
bin piye mujhpe nasha chhaaya hai
teri soorat ne ghazab dhaaya hai
husn se chaand bhi sharmaaya hai
teri soorat ne ghazab dhaaya hai
muskuraayen jo tere lab to bahaaren aayin
muskuraayen jo tere lab to bahaarein aayin
khil gaye phool padi teri jahaan parchaayee
khil gaye phool padi teri jahaan parchaayee
toone gulshan mera mehkaaya hai
teri soorat ne ghazab dhaaya hai
husn se chaand bhi sharmaaya hai
teri soorat ne gazab dhaaya hai
