Mujhe mil gayaa bahaanaa teri deed kaa

Posted on: August 31, 2011

It has happened to me quite often that I have gone to my office only to realise that the office was closed because it was a holiday. 😀 And on the other hand, there have been days when the office was open even when it was holiday for most people.

On these occasions, it is often the alert regulars of this blog who have come to my rescue. For example, today is Eid and so there should be an Eid song on this occasion. And nahm has very considerately sent the lyrics of just the right song for the occasion.

This song is from “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960). The song is sung by Lata. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Roshan. The lovely song is picturised on Shyama and Ratna Bhushan. Ratna Bhushan incidentally was the real life wife of Bharat Bhushan, the hero of this movie.

I take this opportunity to extend warm greetings to all on the occasion of Eid. Eid Mubaarak to all.

Song-Mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka (Barsaat Ki Raat) (1960) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Roshan

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
kaisi khushi le ke aaya chaand
eid ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka

zulf machal ke khul khul jaaye
ho zulf machal ke khul khul jaaye
chaal mein masti ghul ghul jaaye
ghul ghul jaaye
aisi khushi aaj mili
aaj mili aisi khushi
aankhon mein naam nahin neend ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
kaisi khushi le ke aaya chaand
eid ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka

jaagti aankhein bunti hain sapne
ho jaagti aankhein bunti hain sapne
tujh ko bitha ke pehlu mein apne
pehlu mein apne
dil ki lagi aisi badhi
aisi badhi dil ki lagi
aankhon mein naam nahin neend ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
kaisi khushi le ke aaya chaand
eid ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka

aate hi tere jagti hain kaliyaan
ah ha ha haa
aate hi tere jagti hain kaliyaan
dil ban ban ke dhakdi hain galiyaan
dhakdi hain galiyaan
aisi saji raat meri
raat meri aisi saji
aankhon mein naam nahin neend ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
kaisi khushi le ke aaya chaand
eid ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka
mujhe mil gaya bahaana teri deed ka

Eid mubarak to everyone! This is a beautiful song, and I am glad you posted it for the right occasion. I still remember listening to this song in my Lucknow days, when the whole city would be celebrating Eid – your blog always brings back old memories. Thanks, Atul!

Eid Mubarak to you all too. Lalitha ji’s comments reminds me again that i have never been to Lucknow. And yet we could have grown up in Lucknow too, if our father had chosen to take up the lucknow job opportunity back in the 60’s. Instead he chose Mumbai simply because it was closer to home. We might have learned to say “pehle aap ” instead of “pehle main” in accordance with mumbai mindset.

Atul ji,

Thanks for posting this song on such short notice. There is a song in “Jahan Ara” where similar rhyming words of ‘ deed ” and “eid” are used.

There is slight correction of words required in these lines :

Ek zamaane ke baad ‘deed’ hui
Eid se pehle meri ‘eid’ hui
Eid se pehle meri ‘eid’ hui

Eid Mubarak again to you & your dear ones.

Atul ji and all readers of this blog,

Greetings for a very happy Eid to all.

Eid begins with the auspicious news of the first sighting of the moon.

Like Eid today, may Allaah, the Almighty bring every auspicious news to you and your family, all year around.

And many, many thanks to Nahm Bhai, for locating this song and suggesting this post for today. 🙂

Sudhir Sir,

Thanks a lot for the greetings, and i wish the same to you too. Of course today is another day with more such glad tidings in the shape of Lord Ganesh. My sincere greeting to all on the occassion of “Ganesh Chaturthi”.

I have a clarification/confession to make regarding my name. Actually it is initials of my name plus my husband’s name and surname. It was regretttable act of ommission on my part in not clarifying it earlier. Initially i thought it wont matter just like calling a women ‘ sir ‘ is not outrage as compared to the other way round. Lame excuse.

Thanks for the clarification, nahm behn! I had also been under the impression you were a bhai until today! When I worked in Trivandrum and Cochin, it was awkward being addressed as Sir, or rather, Saare, in the Kerala manner, and I used to wish they would just add the word “ma” to my name, so I an understand your feelings!

Nahm ji,
Thank God I was always addressing you as ” Ji ” .
In these days of internate communications, sometimes the idendity of the conversing person is difficult to fathom due to odd and made up ID names. Not that it matters if the person is male or female, but one wants to be respectful in addressing rightly.
I hope you enjoyed Eid with happiness and sweets.

Slightly late but I would still like to wish Eid Mubarak to everyone. This is a lovely song from Barsaat Ki Raat though it never seems to get its due in a film overflowing with brilliant songs.

And thank you nahm behn, for the clarification. I was also under the wrong impression until now. 🙂

Nahm Behn,

😀 😀
And to think that I have been addressing you as ‘Nahm Bhai’ all these months. Arun ji took the safer route of using ‘ji’. I too, generally use ‘ji’ when addressing friends, but somehow I was taken with your name to address you as ‘bhai’.

But thanks for clarification. This is a very good exchange. 🙂
