Husnwaalon ke saamne…bhari mehfil mein lut jaate hain

Posted on: September 14, 2011

Sajjad Hussain composed only about 100 songs in his entire career lasting more than three decades. When I went through the list of his songs, I discovered some interesting facts. Though he composed very few songs, he worked with a disproportionally large number of singers and artists in these songs. In all, he worked with over 25 singers and over 25 lyricists in these songs that add up to just about 100 !

I have so far discussed 63 Sajjad Hussain compositions in this blog. Here is another of his composition, where he teams up with another singer and lyricist. Mubarak Begam is the singer in this song and Shakeel Badayuni wrote this song.

Only the audio of this song is available, but from the song, I guess that this song is picturised as a mujra song. I could be wrong though, and I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Song-Husnwaalon ke saamne…bhari mehfil mein lut jaate hain (Rukhsaanaa) (1955) Singer-Mubarak Begam, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Sajjad Hussain

Lyrics

husnwaalon ke saamne aaya na karo
jaan pyaari hai to
yaa saamne aaya na karo aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa aaa
bhari mehfil mein lut jaate hain
jalwaa dekhne waane
tamaashaa khud na ban jaanaa
tamaasaa dekhne waale
tamaasaa dekhne waale
tamaasha khud na ban jaanaa

hazaaron dekhte hain
ain ain ain ain ain
hazaaron dekhte hain magar shiqwa nahin karte
zamaane se nahin darte zamaanaa dekhne waale
bhari mehfil mein lut jaate hain
aaa aaa aaa
bhari mehfil mein lut jaate hain
jalwaa dekhne waale
tamaashaa khud na ban jaanaa
tamaasaa dekhne waale
tamaasaa dekhne waale
tamaasha khud na ban jaanaa

aaa aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa aaa
hamen maaloom hai
ai ai ai ai ai
hamen maaloom hai
tumne hamaara dil churaayaa hai
dil churaayaa hai
nazar se taad lete hain
ishaaraa dekhne waale
tamaashaa khud na ban jaanaa
tamaasaa dekhne waale
tamaasaa dekhne waale
tamaasha khud na ban jaanaa

Atul ji,
RUKHSANA(1955),a Talwar films production was a Historical costume drama, produced and directed by R.C.Talwar.Music by Sajjad Hussain, the lyrics were of Khumar Barabankvi,Shakeel Badayuni and Tanvir Naqvi.
The cast included Meena Kumari,Kishore kumar,Shammi,Sunder,Madan Puri,Randhir, kumkum,Amar etc.
Revolt,if successful, changes history,if failure,is called a Mutiny. It is a story of Princess Rukhsana, who helps the rebel leader Badal(Kishore kumar),who is leading the revolt against the oppressive Prime Minister Khalid(Madan Puri).
Rukhsana is caught red handed, tried and sentenced Death by hanging.
The story details how rhe rebels rescue Rukhsana, kill the Prime Minister and establish a happy kingdom.
Rukhsana was the first and the last film where Kishore kumar sang under the baton of Sajjad Hussain. As such Sajjad never considered Kishore as a good singer. He used to call Kishore Kumar ” SHOR KUMAR “(and Talat Mehmood as ” GALAT MEHMOOD “).

I did not know anything about Sajjad Hussain, when i started visiting this site, or may be the name had never registered just like i never knew the name of some other composers like Husnlal Bhagatram, though i knew some of their songs.

Regarding Sajjad Hussain the only song i was familiar with (It seems) was this :

When i saw the video again i remembered watching it on T. V..

The other version of the song by Madan Mohan, https://atulsongaday.wordpress.com/2009/02/26/mujhe-darde-dil-ka-pata-na-tha/, has been a personal favourite for unknown reasons, i do not remember since when. As years passed i have sometimes confused either one or the other songs with another song , namely,
https://atulsongaday.wordpress.com/2008/11/26/tujhe-kya-sunaun-main-dilruba/

Thanks to this blog and the knowledged contributors here i have a fair idea of why he is referred as “the legendary composer Sajjad Hussain”( I have heard a couple of time on “Times recall”).
Despite lack of success and other difficulties, Madan Mohan has left quite a mark on Hindi Film music with more than decent body of work, in terms of volume also and with a individual/signature style of composing.

It seems Sajjad Hussain was not able to realise his potential in terms of out put and resultant success. That is why he is referred to as “legendary” who never actually arrived, was only famed as a composer’s composer.

I think the first two lines of the song read like this ‘husn valon se kabhi aankh milaya na karo jaan pyari hai to phir saamne aaya na karo’. Then the song starts with ‘bhari mehfil mein lut jate hain jalwa dekhnewale’. kindly correct the typo mistake in the last word.
