Jo diyaa thhaa tumne ek din

Posted on: October 1, 2011

Sambandh (1969) is a movie that was based on a Bangla novel called “Pratham Prem” written by Achintya Kumar Sengupta. This movie was produced by Shashdhar Mukherjee film syndicate Private Limited. Ram Mukherjee was the producer and the movie was directed by Ajoy Mukherjee. This movie had Pradeep kumar, Deb Mukherjee, Achala Sachdev, Anita Guha aka Dutta, Anjana Manjrekaraka Anjana Mumtaz, Manisha, Sulochana Latkar,Vijaya Choudhary, Abhi Bhattacharya, Nana Palshikar, Ulhas, Rani, Leela Mishra, Jankidass, Manik Dutt, Dilloo,Sajjan, S.R.Bannerjee,Sunder etc in its starcast.

This movie had O P Nayyar as the music director, who was then int the last lap of his career and he had few friends left in the industry by that time. In this movie, he worked with a musical team that he never willingly worked with during his heydays. And still, with this team, his delivered a stunning musical score which arguably is as good and if fact, to my mind, better than anything he composed during his heydays. The music of this movie sounds so fresh and so uncharacteristic.

In this team, he worked with Pradeep as the lyricist, and the singers in this movie were Mukesh, Mahendra Kapoor and Hemant Kumar, rather than his first preference (Rafi). The result was magical. The songs of this movie are stunningly wonderful. andhere mein jo baithhe hain ,
Apni maata ke dulaare bachche and
Chal akela chal akela chal akela tera mela chhoota raahi chal akela were the songs that the musical team of this movie delivered.

Here is another superb song from this movie. this sentimental song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Hemant Kumar and it is picturised on Deb Mukherjee (brought up as a fatherless man who discovers that Pradeep Kumar is his father) and Pradeep Kumar respectively.

Here is this fantastic song from Sambandh.

The lyrics and details of this song and the movie were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Jo diyaa thha tumne ek din (Sambandh) (1969) Singers-Mahendra Kapoor, Hemant Kumar, Lyrics-Pradeep, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

Kis baagh mein main janmaa khelaa
mera rom rom ye jaanta hai
tum bhool gaye shaayad maali
par phool tumhen pehchaanta hai

jo diya thha tumne ek din
mujhe phir woh pyaar de do
jo diya tha tumne ek din
mujhe phir woh pyaar de do
ek karz maangta hoon
bachpan udhaar de do
jo diya tha tumne ek din
mujhe phir woh pyaar de do
ek karz maangtaa hoon
bachpan udhaar de do
jo diya thha tumne ek din
mujhe phir woh pyaar de do

tum chhod gaye thhey jisko
ek dhool bharey rastey mein
tum chhod gaye thhey jisko
ek dhool bharey rastey mein
woh phool aaj rotaa hai
woh phool aaj rotaa hai
ek ameer ke guldaste mein
ek ameer ke guldaste mein
mera dil tadap raha hai
mujhe phir dulaar de do
mera dil tadap raha hai
mujhe phir dulaar de do
ek karz maangtaa hoon
bachpan udhaar de do
jo diya thha tumne ek din
mujhe phir woh pyaar de do

meri udaas aankhon ko
hai yaad woh waqt salona
meri udaas aankhon ko
hai yaad woh waqt salona
jab jhoolaa thha baahon mein
jab jhoolaa thha baahon mein
main banke tumhaara khilauna
main banke tumhaara khilauna
meri woh khushi ki duniya
phir ek baar de do
meri woh khushi ki duniya
phir ek baar de do
ek karz maangtaa hoon
bachpan udhaar de do
jo diya thha tumne ek din
mujhe phir woh pyaar de do

tumhen dekh naach uthate hain
mere pichhle din woh sunehre
aur door kahin dikhte hain
mujhse bichhde do chehre
tumhen dekh naach uthate hain
mere pichhle din woh sunehre
aur door kahin dikhte hain
mujhse bichhde do chehre

jise sunke ghar woh laute
mujhe woh pukaar de do
jise sunke ghar woh laute
mujhe woh pukaar de do
ek karz maangta hoon
bachpan udhaar de do
jo diya thha tumne ek din
mujhe phir woh pyaar de do

aha haa
oho ho
o ho ho
aa haa haa

aha haa
oho ho
o ho ho
aa haa haa

aa haa haa
hmm hmm hmm
aa haa haa
hmm hmm hmm

Atul,

The song is picturised on Deb Mukherjee, brother of Joy Mukherjee.
Shashdhar Mukherjee have three sons, Joy, Deb and Shomu.

Indeed it is Deb Mukherjee. It was absentmindedness on my part. Thanks for pointing out the error.

Ajoy Bishwas was the director of the movie(not Ajoy mukherjee).

Most probably Ajoy Bishwas was the first husband of both rakhee gulzaar and Beena(daughter of pradeep kumar,Beena was not in talking terms with Pradeep kumar. On the last stages of his life Pradeep kumar`s care has been taken by a person who isa ardent fan of pradeep kumar, somewhere I had read this fact.)

Arunji Over to you, Please correct me, If I am wrong.

It is a really moving song.

Though I thought that the film was a little too ‘moving’. But the songs are classics, beautiful.

I wonder if you’ve read my review of ‘Sambandh’. http://batulm.wordpress.com/2011/08/24/sambandh-1969/
