Phulwa band mehke dekho lehke daali daali

Posted on: December 14, 2011

If regulars of this blog are wondering at the reasons behind the reduced output of this blog in the previous days, including no song yesterday, the reason is, I am at a place now where access to internet, especially of the required speed is at a premium. This is in addition to the fact that I am not in a position to get adequate access to internet either. Hopefully things will begin to look up in coming days.

Today (14th december) happens to be Shailendra’s death anniversary. Mr Sadanand Kamath had sent the lyrics of a rare song to me well in advance, and I am sure that I will be able to discuss at least this one song definitely on this date.

Here is this song from “Ham Bhi Insaan Hain” (1959), The song is an all female duet which is sung by Geeta Dutt and Suman Kalyanpur. Shailendra is the lyricist and music is composed by Hemant Kumar.

Song –Phulwaa band mehke dekho lehke daali daali (Ham Bhi Insaan Hain)(1959) Singers-Geeta Dutt,Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Shailendra,MD-Hemant Kumar
Geeta Dutt + Suman Kalyanpur=Fuchsia

Lyrics(Provided by Sadanand Kamath)

phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa
phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa
bhanwara karey phere
mohe ghere hariyaali

phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa

chupke se jaane
ye kaisi ritu aayee
darpan mein mukh dekha
aur main sharmayee
aur main sharmayee
saj ke gaya bachpan
bhayi ankhiyan matwaali

phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa

chhamchham hon paayal
hon ghaayal dilwaale
phir bhi nahin maanen
nahin maanen matwaale

nahin maanen matwaale
komal tan lachke jyun champe ki daali
phulwaa band mehke
dekho leheke daali daali,
phulwaa

na main gwaalaniya
na Mohan ki Raadhey
phir kyun nit kaanon mein
baansuriya baajey
baansuriya baajey
bagiya lehraaye
karey kaise rakhwaalee

phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa
bhanwara karey phere
mohe ghere hariyaali
phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa

This is like meeting an old friend – coming to this site and listening to a song that I used to know and still hum to myself every now and then, and just as in meeting an old friend, the pleasure is there. As I get older, I seem to appreciate the songs of my childhood even more than I did in those days. Thanks, Atul, and Sadanandji!

Thanks Atuj Sir and Kamath Sir for this one of the Rare and Greatest Melodious song of Golden Era. No other than Hemant Kumar can compose and no other than Shailendra can create such magic. A pure Indian classical tune with the taste of soil. What a magic here

….bhanwara kare phere
mohe ghere hariyaali….

….bagiya lehraye
karen kaise rakhwali….

A superb and memorable female duet..

There are a few minor correction required to be made in the wordings of the song, as given below;

phulwaa ban mehke (it is ‘ban’ meaning forest NOT band)
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa
phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa
bhanwara karey phere
mohe ghere ari aali (it is ‘ari aali’ meaning ‘o my friend’ NOT hariyali)
phulwaa ban mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa

chupke se jaane
ye kaisi ritu aayee
darpan mein mukh dekha
aur main sharmayee
aur main sharmayee
saj ke gaya bachpan
bhayi ankhiyan matwaali
phulwaa band mehke
dekho lehke daali daali,
phulwaa

chhamchham ho paayal (it is ‘ho’ NOT hon)
ho ghaayal dilwaali (it is ‘dilwaali’ NOT ‘dilwaale’)
phir bhi nahin maanen
nahin maanen matwaali (it is ‘matwaali’ NOT ‘matwale’)
nahin maanen matwaali
komal tan lachke jyun champe ki daali
phulwaa band mehke
dekho leheke daali daali,
phulwaa
