Achcha sanam karle sitam

“Teesra Kaun” (1965) was a Bindu Kala Mandir Production. The movie was directed by Mohammad Hussain and the star cast of the movie included names like Feroz Khan, Kalpana Mohan, Shashikala, Paro, Rajen Haksar, Shyam Kumar, RamSingh, Kundan, Kamal Mehra, S.Nazir, S.Banerjee, Mirza Musharaf, Chandrima Badhuri, Indira Bansal, Sabina, G.M.Durrani, Paresh Kumar, Habib, B.K.Pereira, Rajendar Singh, Miss Cathy Prince, Janki Dass etc.
This movie must be one of the very first (if not the first) movie where R D Burman composed a cabarat song of the kind that soon became his trademark in his subsequent movies.
Most of these songs would be written by Anand Bakshi/Majrooh Sultanpuri, sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Helen. This song is written by Anand Bakshi and sung by Asha Bhonsle alright, but it is not picturised on Helen though. This song is lip synced by Shashikala. The picturisation also shows Shyam Kumar, Feroz Khan and others.
Here is this lovely archtypically R D Burman composition from “Teesra Kaun” (1965).

Song-Accha sanam kar le sitam (Teesra Kaun)(1965) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
achcha sanam
kar le sitam
kaash na tum se
pyaar kiyaa hotaa
hum bhi tum se
yoon hi roothte
dil na agar tumhein
diyaa hotaa
achcha sanam
pyaar kiyaa hai to phir
gham bhi sehnaa hogaa
aaaaa
pyaar kiyaa hai to phir
gham bhi sehnaa hogaa…..
qaid hoke tere
dil mein rehnaa hogaa
o par yaad rahe
eeeeeeeeee
iss bulbul ko
par yaad rahe
iss bulbul ko
ud jaanaa bhi aataa hai
achcha sanam
kar le sitam
kaash na tum se
pyaar kiyaa hotaa
hum bhi tum se
yoon hi roothhte
dil na agar tumhein
diyaa hotaa
hamne yoon lehraa ke
zulfon ko bikrayaaa
hamne yoon lehraake
zulfon ko bikraayaa
apne chehre se ye
pardaa bhi sarkaayaa
o par yaad rahe
ae ae ae
iss dilbhar ko
par yaad rahe
iss dilbhar ko
sharmaanaa bhi aataa hai
achcha sanam
kar le sitam
kaash na tum se
pyaar kiyaa hotaa
hum bhi tum se
yoon hi roothhte
dil na agar tumhein
diyaa hotaa
achcha sanam

I love this song, especially because Edwina and her friends are in it, and Shashikala’s wig looks like it’s about to come off every second but manages to stay put. Precarious!!!!

There is another song of the same genre in this movie too, which I have now discussed.

RDB knew how to get the best out from his singers. His favorite…Asha/Kishore.
I like Gulzar/RDB/Asha sangam….in “qatra qatra milti hai” film ijazat.
