Ae bas ab tarsaana chhodo

It is one of those songs that I liked a lot without having an inkling of its details. The fact that the song was sung by Kishore Kumar was all that mattered. Of course, I assumed that a song this popular could only be an R D Burman composition.
I became reacquinted with this song when Prakashchandra sent me the lyrics of this song alongwith its details. It is only then that I realised that this son is from a movie called “Sansaar” (1971). I was not even aware of this movie !
The song is a duet sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. The song is written by Sahir Ludhianvi and composed by Chitragupta.
The song is picturised on Naveen Nischol and Anupama. Navin Nischol began well in his career but then fizzled out. Anupama’s career failed to take off and I would not have known who she was but for the details sent by Prakashchandra.
Here is this superb song from my pre teen days. Getting re aquinted with this old childhood favourite song of mine is a nice experience.

Atul ji,
SANSAR-1971 was a B grade movie and that should explain why the songs were good.
It was a Deluxe films’ prsesentation produced by Mohan Saigal and Directed by Dilip Bose who had directed 5 B grade films-Sansar-71 was his first film,Chandi ki deewar & Thokar-74,Badnam-75 and sikka-76.
Navin Nischaol was never counted in the A class actors.Anupama acted with him 2 films,the other being Nirmaan-74.Other films of Anupama were Saas bhi kabhi Bahu thi-70,Duniya kya jaane-71,Do bachhe dus haath-72,Mangetar-72,Achha bura-72,Taxi driver-73,Paap aur punya-74,Jai Radhe krishna-74 and Jamane se puchho-76. Mostly she was in side roles in these films.There is no further info on her.
Sansar was a family drama with the usual story,nothing to write home about.Hari(Abhi Bhattacharya) brings up parentless younger bro Ajay(N>
.Nischol) with lot of love from him and his wife Rama(Nirupa Roy).Ajay also respects his Bhaiyya and Bhabhi very much.Ajay is studying and Hari has big plans for hid future at the cost of his own comforts and happiness.Before Ajay completes his education,Hari fixes his marriage with Kamala(Anupama) daughter of his friend Hargopal(Krishna Dhavan).Kamala and Ajay who knew each other from childhood were already in love.
After they get married,the mother in law of Hari,who is jealous of Ajay starts her michief and creates misunderstanding in two brothers.Kamala tries hard to solve issues but Hari,his wife and their child leave the town and go away so that Ajay should be happy.But Ajay realises the Mother in law’s tricks and searches for his brother,whom he finds in a poor condition.Both brothers embrace and cry a lot(here the audience is also expected to weep.I did not.)
They all comen back to ‘Pushton ki Haveli’ and live life happily ever after.
The End.
No one would expect such a film to succeed at the Box office.

I used to like this song a LOT when I was very young. But, like you, I had NO CLUE about it and had forgotten it completely. Now when I listened to the first couple of lines, it immediately hit home!!!
Thanks SO much for bringing this song back into my life. I´d never have been able to find it otherwise because I did not even remember one line.
Indeed, it is GREAT FUN to hear a song that you last heard 40 years ago.
