Maine tujhe maanga tujhe paaya hai

In our personal lives, we remember various important dates viz bithdays, anniversaries etc of our near and dear ones and greet them on the occasion. Hindi movie personality whom we discuss in this blog also seem like family to us and we discuss them on this blog on important days.
What happens when we forget some important day ? Fortunately someone points it out before it is too late.
As it is, today (18th march) is the 74th birthday of Shashi Kapoor. I had forgotten all about it. Fortunately, Peevesie’s Mom remembered it, even if in the evening. Not only that, she sent me the lyrics of a song on this occasion. She did not note down the lyrics after listening to the song, rather she put it down from memory ! And I must say she has done a great job because she did not miss even a single line. How I wish that I too had memory like that !
So here is this song from “Deewaar” (1975) to celebrate Shashi Kapoor’s birthday. This song is a duet which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar and it is picturised on a pretty pretty Neetu Singh and a very cute Shashi Kapoor (these are the words of Peevesie’s mom to describe the two).
Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist and R D Burman composed the music.
This song happens to be the 300th song of Sahir Ludhianvi in this blog. 300 songs of Sahir Ludhianvi ! I think we can righly take pride on this fact.
I notice that Sahir Ludhainvi, who did not work with S D Burman after 1957 was the lyricist for R D Burman in this movie. I wonder what transpired and how did R D Burman reconcile with Sahir Ludhainvi who demanded to be paid more than the music director. Was Sahir Ludhianvi actually paid more that R D Burman for this movie ? I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Song-Maine tujhe maanga tujhe paaya hai (Deewaar)(1975) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics(Provided by Peevesie’s Mom)
Maine tuhje maanga
tuhje paaya hai
toone muhje maanga
muhje paaya hai
aage hamen
jo bhi miley
ya na miley
gila nahin
maine tuhje maanga
tuhje paaya hai
toone muhje maanga
muhje paaya hai
chaaon ghani hi nahin
dhoop bhari bhi hoti hai raahon mein
gham ho ke khushiyaan hon
sabhi ko hamen
lena hain baahon mein
chaaon ghani hi nahin
dhoop bhari bhi hoti hai raahon mein
gham ho ke khushiyaan hon
sabhi ko hamen
lena hai bahon mein
ho
dukhi hoke
jeene waale
kya yeh tujhe
pata nahin
maine tuhje maanga
tuhje paaya hai
toone muhje maanga
muhje paaya hai
zidd hai tumhe toh lo
lab pe na shikwa
kabhi bhi laayenge
hans ke sahenge
jo dard ya gham bhi
jahaan se paayenge
zidd hai tumhe toh lo
lab pe na shikwa
kabhi bhi laayenge
hans ke sahenge
jo dard ya gham bhi
jahaan se paayenge
tujh ko jo
bura lagey
aisa kabhi kiya nahin
ho o
maine tuhje maanga
tuhje paaya hai
toone muhje maanga
muhje paaya hai
aage hamen
aage hamen
jo bhi miley
jo bhi mile
ya na miley
ya na mile
gila nahin
maine tuhje maanga
tujhe paya hai
toone muhje maanga
muhje paya hai
maine tuhje maanga
tujhe paaya hai
toone muhje maanga
muhje paya hai

Atul ji,
As far as I know,Sahir always wanted to be paid 1 rupee more than the singer who would sing his song and not the Music Director.

Arun ji,
In this case it was indeed the situation. For the film Saadhna, being produced and directed under the banner of BR Films, BR Chopra approached SD Burman to compose the music. Sahir Ludhianvi was the lyricist, and he demanded to be paid more than SD Burman. BR Chopra was inclined to favor Sahir, at which instance, SD Burman stepped out of the film and N Dutta was brought in to replace him. This episode was narrated by Nalin ji, in one of our discussions.

I know of at least three more films in which R D Burman worked with Sahir Ludhinavi:
Joshila (1973)
Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1973)
The Burning Train (1980)
Chopras were involved in two of these three films as producer-director or director. Sahir was Chopra camps’s favorite shayar. I guess, it was more of Chopra’s choice than R D Burman in selecting Sahir for these films as well as ‘Deewar’.
‘Aa Gale Lag Jaa’ was A K Nadiadwala’s film directed by Manmohan Desai.

Thanks for the lyrics. I was writing down the lyrics of this same song.
I love this song so much. But there is some correction in lyrics. Its not ‘dhoop bhari bhi’ , its ‘dhoop karibi’ in 1st stanza.
Have a great day to all music lovers…..
