‘Saaz aur Awaz’ was at best, a mediocre film. Some songs were memorable though. “Tum ishq ki mehfil ho, tum husn ka jalva ho…’ by Rafi and Asha, “Saaz ho tum awaz hoon main…” by Rafi and “Payaliya bawari…” by Lata are the other three well known numbers.

To this list one may add Rafi’s evergreen “Dil ki mehfil saji hai chale aaiye ” and we get a full complement of songs that perhaps more than compensated for the averageness of the film itself.
The other notable feature, that may have rescued this film from sinking into oblivion, is Saira Banu’s fluid and sensual classical dancing and her glamorous, charismatic and graceful screen presence.

Yes Atif-ji, that song too! But, like Humpty Dumpty, all these lovely songs couldn’t put the movie on to the list of ‘hits’!
Saira Banu was very gorgeous and her dance in ‘Payaliya bawarii…” was so fantastic! Sadly, what a waste! This was another among very many celluloid ‘Titanics’ that sank without a trace….

Atul,
For me it looks more of typical Naushad beats than O P Nayyarish.
Examples :
You got a feel of O P Nayyar shade probably because of Asha Bhonsle’s style of singing.
