Koi pyaar ki dekhe jaadugari

Posted on: August 7, 2010

I was recently informed by Lalitha that many “Kohinoor” (1960) songs are missing from the blog. In fact, many songs from many movies are missing, if you think about that. 😀

I will need to post nearly ten thousand songs in this blog before all the well known songs are covered. It is my guesstimate, and I could well be wrong once I reach that mark. I had thought that I would have covered all the well known songs by the time I reached 2500 songs. I have reached that figure and crossed it, but going by the long list of pending farmaishes, it is obvious that I have yet to post many songs in this blog.

Here is a song frm “Kohinoor” (1960). It is sung by Rafi and Lata and it is picturised on Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari. This song is supposed to be a song sung by the duo while they are riding on the horseback. But in the picturisation, they are not shown in closeup with their horses. It is very clear that they were seated on some platform which was being moved up and down to simulate the movement of horses. And this simulation was not very convincing.

Boy and girl riding on horses and singing a love duet ? Now in real life they do not have horses, but bikes. And I have often seen boy riding on a motorbike and girl riding on a scooty engaged in similar “gutargoon” while driving on the road. Now I know that it is not a recent phenomenon and that there are precedences like this song for the bike riding kids of today to emulate.

This song is written by Shakeel Badayuni and music is composed by Naushad.

This song is Rafi’s 765th and Lata’s 917th song in this blog.

Song-Koi pyaar ki dekhe jaadugari (Kohinoor) (1960) Singers-Rafi, Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad

Lyrics

koyi pyaar ki dekhe jaadugari
gulfaam ko mil gayi sabzpari
koyi pyaar ki dekhe jaadugari
gulfaam ko mil gayi sabzpari

dar aaj nahin hai qaatil kaa
aasaan hai rastaa manzil kaa
aaa aaa
aaa aaa
dar aaj nahin hai qaatil kaa
aasaan hai rastaa manzil kaa
nainon mein nayaa ik sapnaa hai
ab saaraa zamaanaa apnaa ha
aaa aaa
nainon mein nayaa ik sapnaa hai
ab saaraa zamaanaa apnaa hai
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
duniyaa hai hamaari pyaar bhari
duniyaa hai hamaari pyaar bhari
koyi pyaar ki dekhe jaadugari
gulfaam ko mil gayi sabzpari

aaa aaa
aaa aaa
ham pyaar ke panchhi mastaane
koyi rang hamaare kyaa jaane
aaa aaa
aaa aaa
ham pyaar ke panchhi mastaane
koyi rang hamaare kyaa jaane
nahin ek thikaanaa jeewan mein
kal qaid mein the ab gulshan mein
aaa aaa
nahin ek thikaanaa jeewan mein
kal qaid mein the ab gulshan mein
aaa aaa
aaa aaa
taqdeer ki hai sab kaarigari
taqdeer ki hai sab kaarigari
koyi pyaar ki dekhe jaadugari
gulfaam ko mil gayi sabzpari
koyi pyaar ki dekhe jaadugari
gulfaam ko mil gayi sabzpari

I love the song but looking at the video, some thoughts come into this mind that has become critical with age (!):

1) How is it that when they show the two horses, the horses are always some distance apart (which is natural), and then the very next instant, the two actors are shown sitting as closely as they would be if they were sitting on a sofa or seat of some kind? We know the answer to that question, but I would have thought this would have been noticed by the editing crew.

2) How did she sit like that on a horse in a sari and be so comfortable? I would have expected her to ride side-straddle, rather than this way!

On the other hand, had I watched this when I was in my teens, I would have probably swooned over it!

Thanks for the song, Atul!
