Shola ulfat ka bhhadka ke
Posted on: April 13, 2012
Looking at the video of this song adds considerably to my general knowledge about movies. For example, I was not aware that Rajesh Khanna had worked in a movie called “Aurat”(1967) and that too opposite an actress as obscure as Naazima. But then Rajesh Khanna himself was a newcomer those days.
And it is news to me that music director Ravi had composed music in a Rajesh Khanna movie. Yes, Ravi is the music director of this movie.
This Gemini combines production was directed by S S Vasan and S S Balan. The movie had Firoz Khan, Padmini, Rajesh Khanna, Nazima, Pran, Achala Sachdev, O. P. Ralhan, Lalita Pawar, David Abraham, Nana Palsikar, Kanhaiyalal, Leela Chitnis, Mohan Choti, Niranjan Sharma, Revti, Baby Rani etc in it.
Here is a nice duet from the movie which is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised on Rajesh Khanna and Nazima ofcourse.
Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.
Song- Shola ulfat ka bhadka ke (Aurat)(1967) Singers-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ravi
Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)
shola ulfat ka bhadka ke
mere dil mein aag laga ke
na tarsaaiye
hum to kab se huye tumhaare
chhup ke laaj sharam ke maare
jee farmaaiye
shola ulfat ka bhadka ke
mere dil mein aag laga ke
na tarsaaiye
hum to kab se huye tumhaare
chhup ke laaj sharam ke maare
jee farmaaiye
deewaana aa gaya
raahon mein aap ki
jeene ka shauq hai
baanhon mein aap ki
deewana aa gaya
raahon mein aap ki
jeene ka shauq hai
baanhon mein aap ki
din hain bahaar ke
mausam hai pyaar ka
kahiye iraada kya hai
aakhir sarkaar ka
aakhir sarkaar ka
shola ulfat ka bhadka ke
mere dil mein aag laga ke
na tarsaaiye
hum to kab se huye tumhaare
chhup ke laaj sharam ke maare
jee farmaaiye
ulfat ka bojh yoon
dil par na daaliye
zaalim shabaab hai
khud ko sambhaaliye
ulfat ka bojh yoon
dil par na daaliye
zaalim shabaab hai
khud ko sambhaaliye
sab kuchh yeh pyaar ki
masti ka josh hai
nazron mein aap hain
phir kis ko hosh hai
phir kis ko hosh hai
shola ulfat ka bhadka ke
mere dil mein aag laga ke
na tarsaaiye
hum to kab se huye tumhaare
chhup ke laaj sharam ke maare
jee farmaaiye
shola ulfat ka bhadka ke
mere dil mein aag laga ke
na tarsaaiye
hum to kab se huye tumhaare
chhup ke laaj sharam ke maare
jee farmaaiye

By the way, there’s this lovely philosophical song sung by Lata about womanhood…”Nari jeevan jhoole ki tarah, is paar kabhi us paar kabhi…” picturised on Padmini…..

Atul ji,
AURAT-1967 was a Gemini film, directed by the brothers S.S.Vasan and S.S.Balan.Being a south film few things are certain-
a-it will be a remake of a successful Tamil/Telugu/Kannada/Malyalam film.
b-there will be joint families
c-each family must necessarily contain atleast 5-6 children
d-There will be melodrama
e-there must be a shrew-like mother in law
f-plot must have atleast 4-5 sub-plots.
g-There should be a Group Photo at the end. and the best part is
h-The music must be top grade.
Aurat has all the above ingredients .If any foreigner sees this film,he need not see Apu Trilogy. He will get a fair idea as to what troubles are faced by an indian poor/lower middle class woman housewife.
Parvati(Padmini) looks after her mother and 6 siblings, including a mute sister Kamala(Revti) and Suresh(Rajesh Khanna) a brother studying Medicine. To help Suresh complete his MBBS course, she avoids marrying her lover Anand(Feroze Khan) and marries a womaniser, mean but rich Manoharlal(Pran)-with 6 children of his own.Manoharlal promises her to pay for Suresh’s college and look after her family.
Suresh falls in love with Asha(Nazima) Manoharlal’s daughter. When this is known to M.Lal,he stops moneyflow and beats Suresh.Suresh meets Ratanlal(OPRalhan) estranged brother of M.Lal.Ratanlal and Asha help suresh to complete his MBBS degree.
Suffice to summerise that there is enough Saas-Bahu torture by Lalita Pawar and atleast 5 bucketfull of tears from Leela Chitnis-Parvati’s mother.Add to it the frustration of not marrying her lover and bearing the mean behaviour of Manoharlal towards Padmini, then you have AURAT.

i would like to know more about O. P. Ralhan, brother-in-law (sala) of Rajendra Kumar and Producer of TALASH, the first Hindi film to have been made in 1 carore !!! He was a Comedian and did bit roles in a few films and died early.

Atul-ji, ‘Aurat’ was a remake of the Tamil movie ‘Chitthi’ (Stepmother). While we are on this movie, I would like to add something to Arunkumar Deshmukh’s blanket comments on South made movies. Yess, I agree with all his observations. I would like to add some of my own:
a) all these movies had believable themes.
b) the typical Hindi movies had more of the ‘saas-bahu’ battles.
c) barring a few, nearly every Gemini and AVM made Hindi movie was a hit. Obviously the ‘hutta khatta’ Northies loved them
d) the South rarely went in for the stale stupid ‘lost and found’ formula so dear to the Hindi film makers of that time.

Menon ji,
Looks like you have taken my comments in a slightly other way.
I am also from south. There is no question of denigrating south movies, but these films stand out among all india movie patterns, with their special way of handling.
Some other points also are relevant, like,
usually,an emotional problem is the theme,
importance to relationships, especially, joint families is stressed,
indian culture is highlighted etc.
The reason every-well,almost every south made hindi film was a hit,is as only the successful southern films were remade in Hindi.
The comments made while reviewing, have to be taken in the spirit of the film, and hopefully not otherwise.
I hope the point is clear now.

Arun-ji, I’m so so sorry for blowing my fuse! Yes, it’s entirely my fault that I failed to see the humour in your light hearted comments. All I can say is–‘We are like this only!’
Tho Arun-ji, milaye haath?

Nazima AND Rajesh Khanna were obscure actors those days! The main roles of ‘Aurat’ were played by Padmini, Pran and Feroz Khan in that order. Rajesh was almost a glorified junior artiste in this movie!
