Tumhi ne mujhko prem sikhaaya
Posted on: July 17, 2012
When I was going through the list of all songs sung by Mukesh, I found that Mukesh had sung a song called “tumhi ne mujhko prem sikhaaya” in his debut movie called “Nirdosh” (1941). While searching for this song, I was unable to find that song. But on the other hand I located another, and even older song with similar lyrics.
Here is this song. It is from “Manmohan” (1936). This song is sung by Surendra and Bibbo. They acted in this movie too, so it follows that the song was picturised on them as well. I am unable to find who the lyricist is. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us the details about this movie including the lyricist.
PS-The lyricist is Zia Sarhadi, as informed by our knowledgeable readers.
Ashok Ghosh composed the music.

For Zia Sarhadi, this film Manmohan (1936) which actually brought him to fame.
Besides acting in this film, he also wrote the lyrics, story, screenplay and dialogue.
Later he moved to Pakistan. Than moved to Madrid, where he died.
Actress BIBBO’S real name was Ishrat Sultana, and she belonged to the Ishratabad Chawari Bazar area of Delhi.
Later she moved to Pakistan. in her later years of her life she had married(?) or had an affair with Sir Shah nawaz Bhutto, (the father of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Grand father of Benzir Bhutto).

The other part of the information is that this song is the same in the two films being discussed. It was originally part of this film ‘Manmohan’, as it is presented here. Later in 1941, the very same song is also included in ‘Nirdosh’, and the singing voices this time around are Mukesh and Nalini Jayawant. For the film ‘Nirdosh’, the Geet Kosh carries a footnote specifically for this song only, that no record was made. Hence, it is not possible to trace the Mukesh-Nalini Jayawant version of this song, unless the film itself is unearthed and released again on disc.

One song from Nirdosh is available. So there is a hope that others would also turn out at some point:
