Songs from Artiste Name Films….Second Season….No. 7
———————————————————

Today’s song is from the film Manmohan-1936. This was a film made by Sagar Movietone in Bombay. The film’s cast consisted of Singer Actor Surendra, Bibbo, Yaqub, Ashalata,Bhudo Advani, Zia Sarhadi and many others. You will be surprised if I tell you that this film would not have been made if K L Saigal was not acting in films of New Theatres in Calcutta ! Strange, but true ! Let us see how….

K L Saigal was discovered by New Theatres and he entered into a contract with them. His first 3 films were most ordinary and non significant, all flops actually – Zinda Laash, Subah ka sitara and Mohabbat ke aansoo, all made in 1932. Next year he made 2 films – Yahoodi ki beti and Pooran Bhagat, made in 1933. In his 5th film-Pooran Bhagat- his 4 songs from this film became famous to some extent. However he had not acted in that film, but only the songs were filmed on him. In the subsequent year, his first famous and popular film-Chandidas-1934 came out with a Hit song ” Prem nagar me basaungi main ghar” along with Uma Shashi. But in this film he was overshadowed with senior actors like Uma Shashi etc.

Saigal caught the nation’s attention in real sense in his 10th film – ” Devdas “-1935 and there was no looking back after this film. He soon became the Trump Card for New Theatres and film after films, his name and fame became known everywhere. The audience and the younger generation at that time had become mad for Saigal’s songs and films. It was a Gold-mine for new Theatres.

This gave jitters to the Bombay film industry and every studio started a ‘Look-Out’ for a new actor-singer to counter Saigal’s and new Theatre’s domination over India.

Surendranath Sharma, B.A., LL.B was discovered by Lala Alopi Prasad, a Delhi distributor of Sagar Movietone films. He had seen and heard Surendra’s singing. He convinced Surendranath to join films and sent him to Sagar movietone in Bombay. Authorities in Sagar were simply ecstatic seeing this young, handsome and highly educated singer from a respectable family. He was soon contracted and handed over to Sagar’s young, enterprising director Mehboob Khan, who not only groomed him, renamed him as only Surendra, but also made him a Hero in film Deccan Queen-1936. In this film he sang a song ” Birha ki aag lagi more man mein “, which was a parody of Saigal’s famous song ” Baalam aay baso mere man mein ” from the film Devdas-1935. All this confirmed the claim of Sagar Movietone that Surendra was Bombay’s answer to Calcutta’s Saigal !

The very next film of Surendra was based on the same story as ‘ Devdas ‘. It was written by Zia Sarhadi. It was titled “Manmohan “, in which the protagonist loses his beloved to another person and takes to drinking and takes his own life. Thus, the film ” Manmohan”-1936 was made because Saigal was popular in Calcutta ! Q.E.D. !!

Film Manmohan also became a Hit film. The handsome Surendra and the beautiful Bibbo enhanced the appeal and very good songs added to its popularity. The most popular song of this film ” Tumhi ne mujh ko prem sikhaya ” is already discussed on this Blog, on 21-3-2014. Today’s song will be the second song from this film, after 7 years. Like that song, today’s song is also sung by Surendra and Bibbo. However, that was a happy song and this is a sad song.

The film revolves around two childhood friends, Vimala (Bibbo), and Ashok (Surendra), who loves her but loses her to another, finally taking to drinking.
Ashok (Surendra) is an artist in love with Vimala (Bibbo). On learning that she is to marry Jagdish (Yakub) he is devastated and paints her portraits which become popular. He starts drinking and finds comfort with another woman. Soon his family wealth starts dwindling. Vimala, who is married by now, tries to help him with her husband’s efforts. However, Ashok misunderstands the overture, leading to tragedy for him.

The music composition was by Ashok Ghosh, with assistance from a then “young arranger”, Anil Biswas. The lyrics were written by a then “small-time” actor Zia Sarhadi. The film’s soundtrack became its “highlight” with “chart-busting” music. Surendra was brought in as a singer actor to counter New Theatres K. L. Saigal. The duet by Surendra and Bibbo “Tumhi Ne Mujhko Prem Sikhaya” is considered a hit song and remains popular. The songs from this film made Surendra a popular singing star.

The star of today’s post is singer actor MANMOHAN KRISHNA – a senior actor who mostly did Character roles. His personality was not exactly suitable to a standard Hero in those times, he would have got lead roles in many films of today, because the definition of a Hero is changed now. He was an excellent actor. Since he could sing well, he sang a few songs in films, which became quite popular. Additionally, some popular songs were filmed on him after he stopped singing himself. He had not acted in the film Manmohan-1936 because he came to films in 1937, though he sang as a playback singer in 1946 itself.

MANMOHAN KRISHNA was born on 11-8-1908, at Lahore in Punjab. He was a very studious person and always stood first in school. He completed his M.Sc. in Physics and started working as a Physics lecturer in a Lahore college. He was very fond of singing and also sang on Lahore Radio.

Once when V. Shantaram visited Lahore, he heard Manmohan’s singing on stage and was impressed. Shantaram offered him the lead role in his forthcoming film, “Matwala Shair Ramjoshi”-1947, In this film Manmohan sang 6 solos and 3 duets with Zohrabai Ambalewali. However, his first song as a playback singer was in Shantaram’s film, ” Jeewan Yatra”-1946, under Vasant Desai’s baton.

In his career of more than 40 years, he acted in 183 films and directed 1 film – Noorie-1979. He also sang 24 songs in 8 films, namely Jeewan Yatra-46, Matwala Shayar Ramjoshi-47, Andhon ki duniya-47, Apna Desh-49, Afsar-50, Aaram-51, Railway Platform-55 and Shehar aur Sapna-1963. During his stay in Bombay, he anchored a Radio show ” Cadbury’s Phulwari” in the 50’s.

Manmohan Krishna was connected with Indian Peoples Theatre i.e. IPTA and acted in few of their dramas. Being an educated person, he was impressed with Nehruvian Secularism. He worked in films like Shehar aur Sapna by K. A.Abbas as well as the first Indo-Soviet film Pardesi-1957. He also got the Film Fare award for playing the role of Abdul Chacha in the film Dhool ka Phool-64. The song in this film ” Tu Hindu banega na Musalman banega ” filmed on him, became very popular.

Being a member of the intelligentia, he could not sell himself nor mix up into the Hindi filmi world fully. He always fought against injustice. He established ‘ Yuvak Biradari ‘ for young Indians, which became a big organisation in due course.

He was a favourite of the Chopra Brothers and acted in most films made by them. Some of his famous films were Deewar, Trishul, Humraaz, Insaaf ka Tarazu, Joshila, Kanoon, Kala Pathar, Dhool ka phool, Waqt, Naya Daur etc. etc. He also worked in 12 Punjabi films. He was prominently spotted in any role due to his thick bushy eyebrows.

In Hindi films, he rarely got a hero’s role, barring few films, because of his ordinary look. He had no looks required for a Hero’s role in a commercial film, in those days. He was of course an excellent Character Artiste. Due to his nature, he kept away from Filmi parties and groupism. He had no real friends in the film industry. Manmohan krishna did not keep good health in his last few years and died at the age of 82 years, in Lokmanya Tilak Hospital, Bombay, on 3-11-1990.

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 102 # In Remembrance – Jaikishan #
————————————————————————————

Today 12th Sep 2020 is forty-ninth remembrance day of the genius music director Jaikishan of Shankar-Jaikishan duo.

Jaikishan was born on 04th November 1929 at Vansda (in Navsari district, Gujarat) and passed away on 12th September 1971 at Bombay (now Mumbai, Maharashtra). He was only 41 when he passed away and his death shook the entire film industry then.

As a tribute to him here is a song from the 1971 movie – ‘Yaar Mera’. One song from this movie – “Dil Ki Kitaab Kori Hai, Kori Hi Rehne Do” – has already been presented on the blog by Sudhir ji on 13th Sep’2013 with a heartfelt tribute to Jaikishan remembering him on his 42nd remembrance anniversary. Today we will listen another song from the same movie.

‘Yaar Mera’ was released after Jaikishan’s death and the movie was dedicated to his memory. The movie begins with this ‘couplet’. I am unable to identify the voice uttering these words, which plays in the background of the dedication title.

jo shaam savere miltaa thha
phoolon ki tarah se khiltaa thha,
aye maut, tujhe maut aa jaaye
kyon yaar ko mere chheen liyaa

Shankar Jaikishan ruled the music charts in 1971 with their “Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhaana” ranking top of the annual ‘Binaca Geetmala’ list. In 1971 from the total 115 released movies, Shankar Jaikishan had composed music for as many as seventeen movies plus the un-released movie ‘Bombay Talkie’ making it to total eighteen movies. Here is the list of movies where Shankar-Jaikishan composed the music and that were released (or passed by Censor Board) in 1971,

S No Movie Passed by Censor Board on Lyricist/s
01 Albelaa 14.10.1971 Hasrat Jaipuri

17 Yaar Mera 29.11.1971 Hasrat Jaipuri, Neeraj, SH Bihari
18 Bombay Talkie (UR) 19.02.1971 Hasrat Jaipuri, Usha Iyyer

Other than songs of ‘Andaaz’ (two songs), the songs of ‘Main Sundar Hoon’ (also two songs) made it to the list of annual Binaca Geetmala of 1971 from the above list of movies. And that can explain how tough the competition was that year.

The song “Dil Ki Kitaab Kori Hai. . .“was the only popular song from the today’s movie and it was frequently heard on radio during that time. As mentioned above this song has already been posted on the blog.

The film was directed by Atmaram for RS Productions, Bombay. Raja Ram and Satish Wagle were the producers of this movie and Jayendra Pandya was the Associate Producer of this movie. Story of this movie was written by Anand Dutta. Dialogues and screenplay of this movie were written by Abrar Alvi. Editing for this movie was done by YG Chowhan, and he was assisted by EG Shinde and DB Rana. CR Panchal was the controller of production of this movie.

The star cast of the film includes Jeetendra, Rakhee, Nazima, Helen, Paintal, Achala Sachdev, Jayant, Sajjan, Randhir, Murad, Sulochana Sr., Nana Palsikar, Radheshyam, Narbada Shankar, Krishan Dhawan, Manmohan, Raj, Darshan, MS Mehta, Fordil, A Kumar, Ram Sindhi, Mona, and Ashok Bhalla.

This movie has five songs written by Hasrat Jaipuri (two songs), Neeraj (two songs) and SH Bihari (one song). Music is composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Suman Kalyanpur and Manna Dey are the playback singers for this movie.

Coming to today’s song, although a lesser heard song, I think it was also played intermittently on radio during those times and later on. This song is sung by Mohd Rafi and lyrics are by Neeraj. An entertaining remembrance which was lying noted since more than seven years now.

Let us now enjoy the today’s song. On screen Jeetendra is performing the song. Also seen in the picturization of the song is Manmohan and Paintal and many others…

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No.57
————————————————–

22 August 2010, the day that fell exactly ten years ago, was a day when normal blog service was going on smoothly, which meant six songs were covered on the day, in chronological order. The day began with an iconic song from 1944 movie “Ratan”. Then songs from “Jogan”(1950), “Amaanat”(1955), “Samrat Chandragupta”(1958), “Do Badan”(1966) and “Balidaan”(1971) were covered.

Looking at the time when these songs were posted, I notice that the first song was posted at 5:32 AM in the morning and the last song at 7:49 AM. So it means that I had woken up well before 5 AM in the morning and I was dopne for the day before 8 AM.

Those were the days. I wonder how I had that kind of drive ten years ago, when I would wake up so early in the morning. Not that I slept early. I remember Peevesie’s mom commenting those days -“ye banda sota kab hai !” 🙂

Here is the list of songs that were covered on 22 August 2010:-

Today, as part of “Blog Ten Year Challenge”, here is the third song from “Balidaan”(1971) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Lata. Verma Malik is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

The song is picturised on Saira Bano, with Manoj Kumar and Manmohan also seen in the picturisation. The song is “Jab tak hai jaan main naachhongi” genre of song, where the villain Manmohan had Manoj Kumar tied up and Saira Bano must dance to save his life. 🙂

The video is available as part of the film but that is without sound.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

gunaahon ke putley
hawas ke bhikhaari
agar zindagi ne diya saath mera
to ik din mitaa doongi hasti tumhari
o jhoothhi muhabbat ke bhookhey darindey

kahaan so gaya hai tu duniya ke maalik
tere is jahaan mein kya ho raha hai ae
kahaan so gaya hai tu duniya ke maalik

Hullo To all in Atuldom

A very happy Janmashtami or Gokulashtami or Sri Krishna Jayanthi as it is called in the various parts of the country. It is celebrated with a lot of prasads, bhajans and jagrans (in some regions). Jagran means keeping awake. The thought behind this is that Lord Krishna was born in the dead of the night so the devotees keep vigil till that hour. As per mythology it was raining heavily at the time of the Lord’s birth and most of the country is having a good monsoon at this point.

The Srimad Bhagwat Puraan says- at birth the Lord was transported, hidden inside a basket by his father Vasudev, to the house of Nand in Gokul, across a swollen Yamuna. (As if in anticipation of the lord there is a flood alert along the banks of the river Yamuna this year.) The Lord grew up in the loving care of Nand and his wife Yashoda. His baal-leelas (playful pastimes as a child) are described in the 10th Canto of the Srimad Bhagwat Puraan. One of the acts described in great detail is ‘maakhan chori‘ – how the lord Loved to reach out to the pots of curds, milk and butter that used to be hung up in the kitchens of Gokul.

Today’s song shows the day 2 of the Janmashtami / Gokulashtami celebrations that is very common in western India. It is from the 1979 Rajkumar Kohli directed Sunil Dutt- Reena Roy- Bindiya Goswami- Shatrughan Sinha starrer ‘Muqaabla’. It has songs penned by Verma Malik with Laxmi-Pyare as the music directors.  Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Anwar, Mahendra Kapoor and Mohd. Rafi are the playback singers used in the movie. The movie was a typical romantic, masaala movie where Sunil Dutt and Shatru play gang leaders. I vaguely remember having seen it, possibly on television, and by the time I discovered it half the movie was over.

But here is the gist as given on IMDB.com:

Sheru (Shatrughan Sinha) and Vicky (Sunil Dutt) are two gang leaders. After a series of complications and mishaps both realize that they will be better off being friends and helping the poor and needy. They also fall in love with two separate women, one of them is Lacho (Reena Roy). When these two turn good guys, the bad guy’s leader Banwanri (Ranjeet) gets angry and vengeful. Fortunately, our two heroes get support from a honest police inspector (Premnath). Then Sheru finds out that Lacho really loves Vicky and his son, this embittered them both against each other. And the two again resume their old rivalry and hatred for each other.

As I said earlier, Janmashtami celebrations continue on to the second day in many parts of India. There are street corner scenes where in pots of goodies along with dahi are tied high up. Groups of youngsters make an attempt at breaking the pots, by making human pyramids and emulating Krishna’s habit of breaking pots which were tied up in the kitchens of yore.

In my younger days (there, I let the cat out of the bag, that I am not so young now though I like to think that I am still a bachcha 🙂 ) we used to have dahi-handi in our apartment complex between the two wings of flats. They used to be tied at a height of 1st floor. We needed a pyramid of three tiers to reach the handi. It was a very simple joyful day. Then as time went by, as in other spheres of life, commercialization set in the dahi-handi festival began to be conducted with prize money attached to the ropes of dahi-handi. This has further grown to the extent that there is this chowk (crossroad intersection) in Thane where the competition is held and the whole road is out of bounds for traffic for the day. And groups of youth practice for months on end to make pyramids which have seven or eight layers. There are numerous cases of people falling and breaking their limbs.  Lately there are also all girl groups in the contest. It is telecast live on all Marathi TV channels and makes for good viewing.

Dahi-handi was made popular in Hindi cinema by Shammi Kapoor in ‘Bluffmaster’ (1965) – the original “Govinda Aala Re, Aala, Zara Matki Sambhaal Brijbaala“.  Various heroes have copied him in subsequent years. In today’s song, we have Shatrughan Sinha and Sunil Dutt have a go at the handi along with Manmohan (in red shirt) and others who are not clear in this video. (A few years back Sonakshi Sinha also had a Govinda song to her name). The song is written by Verma Malik and Laxmikant Pyarelal are the music directors. Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar are the playback singers.  I couldn’t stop my smile when I saw Sunil Dutt dancing. Don’t know who the dance master was who gave him steps that were uncharacteristic of Duttsaab. Then Dr. Shreeram Lagoo enters the scene as the advisor of peace and I was desperately trying to recognize the actor in the light brown shirt with a head band who was trying to raise bets on who will break the handi. The finale of the song is the whole pyramid collapsing when this actor pokes a pin into the feet of one of the govindas (that is what the boys in the pyramid are called)

Govinda Aala Re!!!!

Here is the sixth and final song from “Pardesi”(1970) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Lata and Usha Mangeshkar. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.

What a hidden gem of a song it is ! It is a synchronised dance song picturised on Mumtaz and Padma Khanna. The picturisation shows people gathered around the dancers who sing and dance while we have Manmohan Krishna playing “Been” and a gentleman (whom I am unable to identify) playing guitar.

This song can be described as a snake dance song, a dance form which has become quite popular nowadays thanks to Bangladeshi cricketers. 🙂 The snake dance steps of theb Bangladeshi cricketers were taken from the “Nagina”(1986) song Main teri dushman dushman tu meri main naagan to sapera. This dance step has been mass copied by Sri Lankan cricket watching public as well as famous people (like Sunil Gavaskar, for instance) by now. So the “novelty” value of that snake dance step has been lost. Have no worry. Here is another snake dance song, one that is performed by Mumtaz and Padma Khanna. Being a synchronised dance song, it is a fit snake dance song for a pair of Bangladeshi batsmen batting together at the crease. They can dance like Mumtaz and Padma Khanna whenever they feel that that are on the verge of winning a match. 🙂 And do not forget to give credit to me for this wonderful snake dance song. 🙂

With this song, “Pardesi”(1970) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

The yippeee film for today the 1972 production by Manoj Kumar – ‘Shor’.

There was a period in the career of Manoj Kumar, where every film he touched has either been a hit, or it has commanded a cult status over the years. Starting with ‘Shaheed’ in 1965, and right up to ‘Kranti’ in 1981, he produced, directed and acted in a string of hit films, that have become memorable icons over the years. It was ‘Shaheed’ in 1965, then ‘Upkar’ in 1967, then ‘Poorab Aur Pashchim’ and ‘Yaadgar’ in 1970, then ‘Shor’ in 1972, ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makan’ in 1974, and then ‘Kranti’ in 1981. Of these, the 1972 production of ‘Shor’ is kind of the odd one out – it is not really a patriotic / nationalist theme, that is Manoj Kumar’s forte, that earned him the nickname of Mr Bhaarat. After 1981, Manoj Kumar seemed to have lost his touch, and after a string of indifferent productions – ‘Painter Babu’ (1983), ‘Kalyug Aur Ramayan’ (1987), and ‘Clerk’ (1989), he kind of let go the production / direction stance.

Coming back to ‘Shor’, not just that it was a little different from the normal ‘nationalist’ genre of Manoj Kumar, it is also counted as the least successful film, commercially, in his career as a producer / director – from the period of ‘Shaheed’ to ‘Kranti’. And then, like a few other handful of examples, this film gained a cult status over the decades. And that was, not in the least due to the fantastic songs and music of this film.

Having said that, it surely needs to be recognized and acknowledged that – looking at the list of his films from ‘Shaheed’ to ‘Kranti’ – he belongs to that select band of producers/directors that have had a Midas touch as far as music and songs are concerned. A quick review of his films listed above will lend credence to this statement. Even if, for the sake of argument only, if this set of films is viewed for quality features and box office attractions, then even if one wants to discount other aspects related to the film, one will not be able to discount these films for the sake of the music and songs.

One reason that ‘Shor’, after its initial lukewarm reception at the box office, continued to build into a cult film status, is its wonderful, and even powerful, music and songs.  Let’s take look at the list of songs of this film. It seems to be short in the list, but the impact and profundity of these songs, stands out all by itself.

Paani re paani teraa rang kaisaa 1658 21-Jul-09
Ik pyaar ka naghmaa hai 1675 24-Jul-09
Jeewan Chalne Ka Naam 5555 1-Mar-12
Shehnaai Baje Na Baje 14003 2-Feb-18

My favorite amongst these is of course the one that talks about the colors of water – “Paani Re Paani Tera Rang Kaisa”. The words of this song are just so dear. Every line, every stanza has its own flavor, and impact. In the three stanzas, the question posed in the mukhda is answered in different ways. And the last one – which will touch a chord of the life’s hope within each human being – is simply the best – “Sau Saal Jeene Ki Ummeedon Jaisa”.

Then we have the supremely inspirational song of hope and progress – “Jeevan Chalne Ka Naam” – a song that plays through the days of the hopeful endaeavor, as the hero attempts to break a record of continuous cycling effort. An event and a song that bring together an entire community – a pinnacle of synthesis of emotions coming together as one.

And then the song that has, along with “Paani Re Paani. . .”, garnered the cult status – this time in the genre of love songs. Every time I listen to this line – “Zindagi Aur Kuchh Bhi Nahin, Teri Meri Kahaani Hai”, it sends shiver down my spine. The sheer simplicity of words, put together to express one of the most profound essays in the multiplicity of human existence. In eventual analysis, actually in this life, there is nothing more than the self. And practically every tale is eventually a tale of the self. But love changes all that. When there is love, then the tale is of ‘you and me’ put together – and there really is nothing else in life actually. “Ik Pyaar Ka Naghma Hai” – life is but simply a song of love, yours and my love. One of THE best expressions that puts in a definitive and ultimate response to the query of “what is love”.

Another aspect of his musical expression I would like to discuss. What we see here is the shades of Raj Kapoor and Goldie Anand – as far as the construction and the presentation of the song is concerned. Manoj Kumar really has that Midas touch to get the best out of the team of songwriter + music director + singers. The songs of his films are some of the best-in-class creations that will be listed right up there with the ones that are considered as top creations, as well as presentations. He also has a knack of putting together the most appropriate scenario, and most convincingly, to bring the song in and merge it quite so seamlessly with the flow of the story line. His song presentations are simply out of the ordinary, in a special category all by themselves. Take your thoughts back to the songs like “Jogi Hum to Lut Gaye Tere Pyaar Mein” from ‘Shaheed’; “Aayee Jhoom Ke Basant” from ‘Upkar’; “Main Na Bhoolunga. . .” from ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’; “Ab Ke Baras Tujhe. . .” and “Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi” from ‘Kranti’. And the one that is the closest to my heart as a special favorite – “Hai Preet Jahaan Ki Reet Sada” from ‘Purab Aur Paschim”. That I am picking these songs as a sampler does not mean that the remaining songs do not jell. Each one does. Just that the space does not permit me to write about each one of them, what all I wish to write.

The song presented today, comes on to the screen with an already prefaced history, in the film. The three stanzas in this song are directed towards three men who are coincidentally present and watching the dance performance, Rani (role played by Jaya Bhaduri), is a worldly wise young lady, and a street urchin at that. To compete with and to secure herself in this most perilous environment in which she exists, she has to become one of them, with a tongue that can abuse an curse the most evil, and hands that are adept in swinging the blade of a deadly knife. Her standard masquerade to cheat people, i.e. men, and rob them, is to appear on a less traversed road in the late evening, and pose as a helpless damsel looking for help. And when a victim gets interested, she will start screaming to draw the attention of whatever is the sparse crowd, crying for help against the man. The poor victim, is painted as a trying to outrage her modesty. She blackmails them to cough up some money, in exchange for her to keep quiet.

Prior to this song, these three men are each party to such encounters with her. The first one – a regular junior artist whose name I am not able to recall right away, is a meek fellow who gets conned by Rani. The second one is Shankar (role played by Manoj Kumar), who turns the tables on her, and dares her to shout and gather attention. And the third one is also local street smart mawaali (role played by Manmohan), who fancies Rani to be easy meat for his spurious intentions. For a change, as Rani does a street dance performance, striving also to make some honest money, the three gentlemen appear one by one, to be dealt with appropriately.

Jaya’s performance as Rani is just superb. In 1972, she is very fresh from IFTI, Pune, and her portrayal of a near vagabond and street smart character is quite so convincing. We also see Premnath as the Pathan friend of Shankar, Master Satyajeet as Deepak, the mute son of Shankar, and Manmohan as the local mawaali. Once again, I request help from the more knowledgeable readers to help identify the very familiar junior artist behind the bespectacled thin old man who appears in the first stanza.

So with this post, we bring to a close, the discussion on this cult classic film from Manoj Kumar. Wonderful songs and music galore from his films. Welcome ‘Shor’ to Yippeee-land.

ढ ढ ढ
